Personally i have never liked the GL stuff, never understood the fuss.
I know the TV series and the movie, but :shruggy:
Hate the fact that they destroyed a lot of Chargers.
Think they look childish...
On the other side "DO WHAT YOU WANT" it is your dream and your car

Well the thing you are over looking is the Dukes is what is saving alot of chargers now days from going to the crusher, because folks wants a General Lee replica of there own so they save the charger to make into a General. That is one less charger that gets crush.

Now on the other hand people that have 18's rims on there cars looks like a toy to me. I would perfer more tire on a rim then more rim then tire. If you want more rim then why not go wagon wheels.  :shruggy:

Now what Nelson is doing I think people would say he should have sold the car and bought another one that needed alittle fixing up. because he had a nice charger before which he probly could have got alot more doe ray me out of for another charger and maybe had $$$ left over for the project.

I still can't follow why anyone would build a TRIBUTE car in the wrong model year    :shruggy:  It's just .... wrong.  But, turning any Charger into a General Lee supports our hobby: Parts are purchased, body shops are employed, ....then the next owner restores it to stock, ......and the cycle continues.

Anyway, have fun with your project. Looks like it's coming along well!

As said earlier in this thread a '68 car is correct as WB themselves used plenty of them. All he needs to do is change the grille and tail panel and close up the side marker light holes and he's done.

I agree with the rest of your thread though he's keeping the car alive and so long as the original parts are kept if he does change it to '69 spec it's easily reversable.

I do think the car looked awsome the way it was though.

I think it's much worse to turn a 69 car into a daytona clone as there are more body mods involved but I've not seen anyone getting grief over that. Not yet anyway.

That was one nice looking 68.  I love the blue and white.  Good Luck with the car, have fun and continue on with the dream.  These babies are so popular, 20 years from now someone will put tons more in it to bring it back.  Or maybe not.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

for now i keep it as 68. but i will probably modify the charger in a 69 in the next few years.

Ill buy that old grille off of you lol, the more I look at mine the more it bugs me haha.
and those tail lights...
and the trim around them...

Guys, how many times do we tell people, "Buy the nicest car you can afford to START WITH, don't try to fix a disassembled rust bucket!"

Well, that's what Nelsen Audet did, and now you guys are saying it would have been better to use a project car.  Anyone who thinks he would have bought the 1968 if he had access to any 1969s that would have been the same amount of costs/effort invested, raise your hand.

----------------------------------------------------------

The simple fact is he probably found a better deal on a 1968 Charger in his desired condition & price than he could get on a 1969 car.  Other people can say he should hold out for the '69, but other people are not the ones waiting years and taking on thousands of dollars more work for their project over it.

1969 cars are in more demand than 1968 cars (or 1970 cars) these days.  I'm not dissing 1968s, but that's a simple fact.

Therefore, the plain old market forces dictate that at least a few 68s are gonna be converted.  Big deal.

::)Thats what I love about this site ::) Everyone wants to tell you how to build YOUR car.

I just love chargers, no matter how they look.... rust bucket, general lees, restomods, concours show cars I love em all.

I don't want to put a damper on your dream or anything but why didn't you just find a '69 that was all done and just needing paint instead of the restored '68? I'm just kinda curious :shruggy:

in quebec 69 charger is extremely hard to find and the price are  too crazy.. compare to a 68...

Nelson, where are you located in Quebec? I know a guy in Shawville Quebec that has 2 barns full of Mopars. He has four 69 Chargers. Two are turn key General Lee's that are For Sale. Also has a 68 Charger.

Where are the pics of this Heaven you speak of?

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I'll raise my hand, I think he could have sold it to some one who would have like it in the shape it was in before and apperatedied it. I know he could have gotting money out of it and had enough to get another 2nd charger that wasn't as nice as that one but in good shape to tranform into a General and probly had money left over for the project.

On a good note. Good luck with the GL. Im surprised I didnt get as much flak for taking a "perfect looking" Charger and cloning it. Maybe it's a General Lee thing?

Looking forward to more pics. and 1 month, wow. took several with mine.
