i just stumbled onto a poor lowly 71 charger today in less than pristene condition, however very, very cheap. a running driving car with rust, and dents. anywho,it is a slant 6 car with 727 auto and 8 3/4 rear end. guess ma mopar thought that /6 was gonna get rowdy or something. bench seat column shift car. how many slant 6 chargers did they build in 71-72? seems like this would make a formidable daily driver for fuel economy, though i wouldn't dart out in busy traffic with it. lol.
how'd i do that!?!?!?

WingCharger

Slant Six third gens are a rare find! :yesnod:
Most slant sixes found are 68-70, but a '71 is rare!

How could it have a 8 3/4? Shouldn't it be a 7 1/4? Sure the slant isn't a swap? :shruggy:

48chebbie

nope, numbers and VIN call out a slant 6 car. the car is a 2 owner car with 77,XXX miles and i spoke with both owners today (brothers) and neither one has said or remember doing any work other than matinence or any big parts replacement on the car.
how'd i do that!?!?!?

TruckDriver

None of my books have any slant 6 production numbers in them :shruggy:

sounds like a rare Charger... don't think the trans would be a 727 though . more like a 904 ... :shruggy:  ........... think someone on here mentioned they had a /6 3rd generation ,  :scratchchin:
or it came up in a conversation about /6 chargers , not sure   :popcrn:

I'd pick it up in a heart beat! that is if you have the room/money. New 1/4 are finally out for 3rd Gens and more parts on on the way...DO NOT DO AN ENGINE SWAP, we have more than out share of 440's, leave it a six (heck I'd buy it if I wasn't here in AK)

48chebbie

i will go on and pick it up being it is weird. and yes,it is a 727 trans. car has rust in lower quarters and bottom of front fenders (both fenders badly dented anyway) but no rust in the floor pans or trunk.paint shot and vinyl top was stripped off years ago,so no rust there. has P/S, manual drum brakes,A/C. i can buy the car for under a grand so i might as well. thanks for the replies.

Wow, I thought the only slant six vehicles to get 727's were things like cabs and squad cars.  That has to be one rare car.  Nice find.

48chebbie

i am going to get it tomorrow or tuesday. i will post fender tag data then. yeah,i was moving my step-daughter to her new appt. and turned down a road to take a short cut,and saw it sitting in the guys side yard next to his house. funny i was having fun manuvering a 2-ton U-haul truck in his little driveway. i went and beat on the door, and guy said he was tired of it sitting there, and wasn't going to do anything with it. needed a new furnace for his house worse than he needed the car.he got it from his brother in 95-96 and drove it till last year when the battery went dead. never put another battery in it. go figure.
how'd i do that!?!?!?

TruckDriver

I wish I could get my hands on a deal like that just once. Be sure to post a few pics and the story on my 3rd gen forum too. It is a rarity now a days. I'd love to have it. My friend just out of high school had a '73 with a slant 6 and a 3spd on the floor that was in great shape. He sold it for a Camaro because the steering box was worn out. :P

mikesbbody

If it were mine, id put a 440 in it but since its not  ;D i agree with the guy's leave the 6 in it it sounds quite rare. Check out pete's third gen site if you havent already done so. Post some pics if possible (both here and at the third gen site) nice score  :2thumbs:

48chebbie

here is the fender tag info on this jewel:
716 END

V4X U A85 C11 C33 H51
FE5 C2X9 TX9 218 212116

Couple of numbers must of been looked at wrong according to the decoder, but this is what came up.

48chebbie

you obviously hit the same snag i did. the C11 and C33 are clear as a bell on the fender tag, i will post a pic of the fender tag if you like, but i couldn't find out what those 2 codes are either. my govier white books don't show those 2 codes. IDK.
how'd i do that!?!?!?

Ghoste

Not that it means anything at all but they fall within the range of codes for seat belts (C11) and seats (C33).  :shruggy:

UFO

Possible misstamp? G11-G33 would make more sense.

48chebbie

you are correct UFO. i did not clean the crud off the fender tag well enough. it is G11 and G33. car does have the passenger side chrome mirror too.
gonna throw a battery and some fresh fluids and filters in the powerhouse tomorrow and take her for a spin. woo hoo hot rod. :smilielol:

before you go any further...well when you get the car home...look for the Broadcast sheet. under the back seats, under the front seat,carpet..hidden somwhere in the car,if its still there.

that will tell you everything you want to know about the car....I found mine under the passenger bucket seat.

I would restore the car back to original...it will get more attention as a /6 than if  it were turned into an RT or a Super Bee Clone. just my .02.

good luck...
