Torsion bar length?

How long are the torsion bars on a 73 Charger?

Service manual says 43.6 in.

I found 41 in. b bodys at Mancinni, but no longer ones

Ghoste

Yes, I believe the 73-74 ones are longer and I don't think Mopar carries a bar longer than the 41 inch models.  I don't know if there is another aftermarket source for them or not.  I'll bet Nacho does.

Thanks,

I was considering .960 Mopar t bars to replace my old .920 ones.

Was looking at the Firm feel 1.00 bar.

Do you have any experience with those?  440 engine /aluminum heads intake/fiberglass hood and trunk mounted battery. Street car

I havent gotten new ones, i had a thread on the diameters...let me find it for you

Here ya go,

www.firmfeel.com

:iagree: great customer service... myself got 1.06" to BB car and I think could ho thicker without problem, but still have to check with decent shocks... right now I have POS pretty much new Gabriels made in Venezuela, and I think they come out worn quickly.

maybe 1.12" was to be dangerous to unybody on my car, being Caracas ( and All Venezuela ) streets are really in bad conditions...that's frustrating, being whe are oil and asphalt producers and exporters!!!!  :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

Mopar performance sells just to cars with 60s lenghts... A bodies did  keep same length allong the years, and B bodies up 72 are also the same than 60s. 73 and laters changed the front suspension, locating further back the T bars cross members on an isolation brackets so that's why needs longer bars.

Honestly, after use 1.06" I'LL NEVER GUESS HOW ASSEMBLY PLANT WERE ABLE TO MOUNT LESS THAN 1" on any car, specially B and C bodies.

ONE THINK TO CONSIDER... thicker T bars will act depending on your ride height... a thicker T bar but very low ride height will bump allmost similar than a standart T bar on stock ride height

The Firm Feel web site shows the spring rates . The longer bars have a lower rate for a given diameter.

Have to decide between the 1.00 and 1.06 inch. Leaning toward the 1.06 inch after reading what Nacho said. Want a firm ride and have ground clearence issues.

I based on that and went for its use... Heavy duty/street... they used diff descriptions when I got, something like HD sport car...

Trust me, you won't be disappointed with 1.06". Anyway if you plant to use your car, I wouldn't build a low rider... lower than stock, yes, but low rider no... specially with our axles lenght and if you plan to use headers.

and of course, decent shocks!

Thanks for the info Nacho.  The 1.06 sounds like a good choice. Have headers,7qt pan and deep trans.pan,so I can't lower it much.

Not many choices in front shocks. I use KYB twintube. Was looking at an Edelbrock catolog, triing to find a correct lenght shock that could be modified.

No luck yet.

Nacho-RT74

eddy shocks won't fit on 73 and laters in front!!!!

we have just Monroematics and KYB GR2s, not even Just a Shocks

you tell me!!!! I'm still unsure if KYB GR2s are REALLY a good and NOTICEABLE upgrade or is just like a stock shock, with a just little PLUS...since does look you have them.. are they REALLY a noticeable diff with stocks gabriels or whatever OEM/stocks etc...?

Comp, eddy, and... you name it, performance monotube shocks are not designed yet for 73 and laters in front. Applications are a missinformation. They are including up 74 because you can make them fit on 74 E bodies but won't fit on 73 and laters B bodies

Yea not many choices. The KYB are ok. A good match for the 35 year old .920 t bars. Would like higher capacity shock.

Car had worn out regal rides on it . They were larger diameter gas chargered NAPA shocks. Need to go to a NAPA store and see what they can dig up.

I'm ready to get some shocks, but I'm holding up to find better ones on a reasoneable price. At the moments I have Summit KYB GR2s page bookmarked, ready to make the call to buy

Nacho-RT74
