HA, define overpay.  I bought the car initially for a pretty good bargain but I've been paying ever since; and I strongly suspect the trend will continue.

This is the one thing that I'm pretty happy about. I got my car off of Ebay. The frame rails are solid through and through, the car had already had the front end done by a resto shop (all new suspension parts, worked over fenders, hood, engine bay, etc. ready to paint) and the rest was about normal for a Charger, rust areas with the quarters and rear window area. Pretty complete, came with two grills and was only missing a drivetrain and related parts and interior. I got it for $3,600, which I think is a fair deal. Nothing outrageous, but quite justifiable.

Did you pay and didnt feel like you got your moneys worth? 

I.E.:  This meaning that you got your charger, took the whole thing apart and found out that it had so much cancer  you couldnt see past the paint until you sanded it all off?

I will never get mine back out of it, but thats fine with me. fulfilling a life long dream of completely rebuilding a freaking 1969 DODGE CHARGER is worth every penny and more. building up this car has revitalized my life in a way. every morning when I go downstairs and fire it up I get insanely stoked. I can always make more money, can't make more life.

I agree, I paid to much which I know I did... I keep reminding myself that something you build is better then something you buy. And every time I look at my car I can't help but think that this has to be the sexist car ever built in the history of man.

I sure did.....

But i don't really regret it. I bought my 69 in 2006 and IMO the prices seemed higher than they are now.
But my situation is quite different.
Since I'm located in Europe it was really difficult to inspect a car yourself. So then you get the risk of buying a car sight unseen, and we all know how you can get shafted when things go wrong.
i was a complete rookie about Mopars then (still kinda am today) so i knew nobody who could possibly help me out with shipping and stuff...

So I ended up with buying a car unseen from our "local" Mopar shop (one of the very few true Mopar shops Europe has?) and I knew I could trust the man's word on the car....

Maybe with the knowledge I have today I would do things different And maybe have a driver instead of a rolling shell for the same money, but hey I got it without any risk almost delivered at my door so I'm happy with my 69

Wow a 69 RT/SE 4 spd trackpack car!  Can you tell us more about it and post a picture or two?


As for me, Yes and No also.  Had the market not been so darn hard to find one of these, or had he not listed it as " Buy it now " I might of flown to CA to view it.  Also if I  used the talent on this site, I would of learned a lot about how much was listed incorrect, that being said I would of offered 25,000.00 instead of the 29,500.00 I paid.  Not a biggie.  It's still insured for more than I have in it.

No I didn't overpay for it but I had to make payments on it at that paticular time in my life. I bought it just over 22 years ago for $400 and had to pay it out in 3 payments.    Matter of fact, I just found this morning the hand written reciept I got when I made the last $100 payment showing it paid in full on 11/14/86.

1969chargerrtse if i know then what i know now i would never have bought it. I rater bought yours for 30K than a non rolling resto for 45k. Sure i have one now, but since orginal 440, 4 speed and Dana(sure non match 440 and 4 speed but a 8 3/4") sad thing is that the 2 second owner has all the things but refuse to sell them for making a clone for 20 years After stripped it for everything SE, his brother got the car stripped the rest of and made it a GL Then the guy i bought it from bought it with 383-auto-8 3/4"(cut up firewall after installing ac and other horrified projects) and started some major metalwork(was a bondo bucket).
Once i got the car it only was driven for 20 miles before it broke down totally, now i just have to find the energy to stripp it and do a total resto.

I paid 4100 for mine in 1994.  granny's charger 318/904, manual everything, buckets/console. needed lower patch panels/paint/chrome.

i bought my 1968 gold hemi charger on march 5 1989. i paid $7000.00 for the car. car was from chicagoland all its life. tipical rust  but complete running hemi auto car.  car cost me $35000.00 to get it to where it is today.  i still own the car today and enjoy the car more than anyone would ever know. i don't believe i overpaid for my charger.

Did i pay too much for the car? No. I searched for 2 years to find the most solid rust free car. But the cost of a restoration was allot more the i expected.

no i only paid  $1040 including tax title and registration for my 69  they wanted $1600 it was 1974 though   i did buy another charger a 68 h code for $400 back in 82  all it needed was the freeze plugs put back in drove it for two years sold it to some kid for $1600 thought i made a killing wish i still had it  oh well thats life

I think everyone thinks they could have gotten a better deal. However, after reading some of the horror stories on here, I think I got a great deal so far!

 I think the guys at the wrecking yard where i bought mine in '84 took advantage of me cause i was so obviously interested in the rusty stripped triple black R/T SE they were gonna crush,..
So he quoted me a price of $2,500 when it was really at the time and place worth less then a grand...
I think the dude actually snickered and winked to his friend after he said that,..
I "bargained" him down a couple hundred so I didn't feel like a total duffus,..
But allot of folks on this site have recalled buying nice running HEMI cars for a few hundred in the same time frame.
I guess the point is in my 24 year old mind's imagination I had allready rebuilt the car to show car condition before I asked them how much?
The two other chargers I bought for drive train parts and an S.E. interior respectively were $500 each BTW. those cars would be worth several times that today... I had no problem with them at that price.

I bought my 73 Charger SE in 2003 for $17K. It was an unrestored reference original with 2,765 documented miles. 400HP 4bbl, a/c that still blows cold, 727, 8 3/4 rear, etc. the car was as it came from the factory except for mufflers,recored radiator and battery. It came with a new set of BFG T/As  and wheels (the orig tires and wheels were off the car and came with it.) full documentation and decode report from Govier. I think I overpaid by 3 or 4 K, but given the pedigree and the fact that my wife declared that "it ran as if it were brand new" I felt that I got my monies worth. since then, it has  performed near flawlessly. All I have had to do was rebuild the carb, replace some belts and hoses, and recharge the air with R12.  The Charger has accumulated 9K more miles and it has provided us with great pleasure and lots of fun.  I would say that it has been worth every penny.

I paid 2500 for the Red Car (eventually used it for parts) in 1999, and the grey one I paid 3000 for it in 2000 and it was running and driving at the time. I used the red one for parts (about the only thing Im using off car#2 is the shell and rear end, everything else came off Red car. and I probably sold 1200-1300 dollars worth of stuff on eBay.
Still aint done with it yet.
