Jason I'm loving the WRIF shirt.

Yeah I live in Alabama, but I got an Uncle that lives in Pontiac Michigan. He sent me the Shirt and a Drew and Mike CD.

speaking of Pontiac, that is wher the photo of my Charger was shot, at the Pontiac Silverdome, ex home of the Detroit Lions. Nice shirt by the way. Drew and Mike were the best in their day.

I think everyone thinks they could have gotten a better deal. However, after reading some of the horror stories on here, I think I got a great deal so far!

Nope...I got great deals on both of mine! Now the cost of restoration on the other hand......  :scratchchin:

2002 I paid $500 for the car in this condition, $250 back storage (it was abandoned at a storage lot) and 8 months of detective work to find the owner. A good deal yes, the over paying came during the restoration...I spent over $2000 in just shipping costs for parts!

I payed $2700 for the Super Bee in 1989. It didn't have the fender tag or a build sheet. It only had a bulge hood on it with R/T striping when I bought it. It is originally a 383 car. It had a 440 in it when I bought it. My cousin and I flew to Great Falls, MT and drove the car back. I had Abra paint it about 3 weeks later. That is the paint job still on it today.

Did I pay too much? :shruggy: I guess since I have had it for so long and drove it quite a bit I would say no.

I took pics of some Polaroid pics. This was the car right after we got back with the car before the Abra paint job.

I overpaid for my Bee many years ago and with the exception of my Challenger have done pretty good.

I have more in the drivetrain of my Charger than what I paid for it.

Depends on who you ask. My wife says we overpaid for all of the Chargers that I've bought. She really thinks we overpaid for the 500. To me though, I think we have done pretty well on the cars we have bought. Probably should have kept a few that have been long gone, but hind sight is always 20/20 right?

I paid $3000 for mine in 2001.  I had thought I got a decent deal on mine until I tore it apart 5 years later.  I knew the trunk and floors were shot and it needed quarters, but I wasn't expecting to see filler an inch thick or more over the entire surface area of both quarter panels not to mention patch panels riveted over top of quarters that were brazed on top of the original quarters.  Beyond that, the rockers were shot as well as the rear outer wheel houses, inner rocker strcutures, sail panels, rear window sails and a host of other things.  Total basket case and incomplete.  I'm glad I was able to do everything on it myself otherwise I'd be in the hole alot of $$$.

This is what I paid $3000 for...

About $17,000 later....

And I can say that I did it with no help or farming anything out.

BlueSS454, .  I think you did pretty good that you did it all yourself.  If you do everything yourself, youll definately know the car like the back of your hand and not have to worry about any hidden problems since you seen the resoration from beginning to end

I sold my 69 with factory big block for a ridiculously low price...and ever since then I had to have another second gen Charger. After looking for a few years this one turned up at reasonable price ( In my mind)...the seller was great and reduced it $2000 further...needs a little finishing but seems to be solid! I'm very happy. This is the day I brought it home. $12,000??? Purchased in late 2008.

I agree, I paid to much which I know I did... :slap: I keep reminding myself that something you build is better then something you buy. And every time I look at my car I can't help but think that this has to be the sexist car ever built in the history of man.

My thoughts exactly.  I probably bought at the worst possible time vs. overpaid.   I bought my Charger Summer of '07 right before/while prices took a dump.  On the other hand I bought my Challenger in '01 right before prices went crazy, so it all evens out I guess.  After I got it home and really start poking around I found some messed up/random things like a hacked up package tray, t-bar mount rot, and some other odds and ends, but you gotta start somewhere, right???

While having lunch at the fire station in the fall of /07, my lieutenant indicated that he needed to liquidate his inventory of vehicles, noting that he didn't have any spare time to restore some of them. I have always wanted to restore a classic, but life as such always kind of gets in the way. When he said it was a 66 charger, it peeked my curiosity and I went immediately to the net to get a better look at this. Not to familiar with the 1rst gen, it  soon grew on me and suggested to him that maybe I would be interested and we should go and take a look at it. It was stored in a barn about one hour away from Ottawa. I have always worked on my own vehicles, so I wasn't going in totally blind. Well, has many of you would agree, there is something to be said when you actually see the car in person. It takes only about two minutes before you can envision yourself going down the road, windows down with a smile on your face that can't be erased that easily. Well, sorry about the long winded intro, but as they say all stories need a beginning. Did I pay to much? 3,500$ is a small price to fulfill a dream. I have done most of the work myself, save the body and paint, but so far money spent on it has not been to bad. Since starting this project, I have found that one of the best offshoots of this hobby is the people that you meet that also hold this close to their heart. As soon as you mention that you are working on a classic, you are talking in a different dialect, as my wife would say, and there is nothing that friends or total strangers would do in order to help you. For that, it is money well spent.

To be honest Brock, I don't really have to much light to shed on it. We flew out to Montana and the guy picked us up at the airport. We went to his place and I looked at the car. I asked about the hood and he said something happened to the hood and a friend of his repaired it and had that stripe kit laying around so he let him put it on. What I think happened in hindsight is that a buddy of his had this hood on his car and probably wanted the Super Bee hood with the insert and a swap was done. I went in blind and did not know anything about these cars. My bad. The other reason I think this happened is because the ad also showed Centerline wheels all around. When I got there it had Centerlines up front and steel wheels in the rear. Probably something his buddy also wanted. :shruggy: We were at his place maybe 10-15 minutes at most. Flew in at 9pm and we left the gas station at 9:30pm heading back to Minneapolis, MN. We were kinda crazy back then, driving an unknown car back and leaving in the dark across the wasteland of Montana. :shruggy:

My parents paid $3600 for my '71 in 1995. It had fresh paint and new upholstery but everything else needed repaired or replaced and I had to pay for all that myself. I think in the first month I had it I probably spent close to a thousand bucks just to make it safe to drive. New brakes and suspension came first, then I had to get new wheels because the ones it came with didn't mate to the brake drums properly. With new wheels came new tires. By the end of my senior year I had all the stripes, emblems, carpet, front and rear spoilers and electronic ignition put in.

Over 13 years I've probably put around $10k into mine, and I don't regret any of it.

Bought my 72 440 Rallye 4 speed (real U code car), Dana 60, Sure Grip 3.55,  this summer for $17.5.  Paint's ok, interior ok, motor ok. Have put $7k back in it in interior and a firm feel steering box, as well as miscellaneous other work. Probably paid a bit too much but not bad I think.

I've owned a lot of cars over the years, this is a keeper. Like it better than anything else I've owned.

I paid 7500 back in '05 for mine and drove it home 136 miles.

Paid $2400 for my '74.  Bought in 1976.  Car already had over 100,000 miles on the 318.  Had to have it :icon_smile_tongue: but as a young college student with no credit history I got stuck with a 21% interest rate :flame:  That really wasn't that bad back in '76.  Even then, I had to have my grandfather co-sign. Since I still have it I think the price was fair.  Now, I've got over $10,000 in parts waiting to add/replace/modify.

I paid $1000 in '90 for my '67 383 4 spd Charger.
