Man, this is a long, ongoing novel.  A little advise to 500hp, put a 318 in it, drive it, and grow into the major leagues.  In the '70s real MoPar guys were like Richard Carpenter.  Class acts that drove these cars easy and once in a while a "Chevy dude" would come aside and (in the right conditions) you would shut him down.  You drove a MoPar with respect.  Its like owning a gun. (Walk softly and carry a big stick).  Today, people are a bit different but the gun is the same.  I would think "318" until you learn to respect what you have. These cars don't grow on trees.  Take some Ritalin or what ever they call it and just learn the car.  You have a COOL car, good luck, ~Steve~

this is 21 pages TOO long... LOL.. gosh..

it doesnt matter how much hp he has... i had a 175hp 400 2bbl 73 charger in high school and i about killed myself in it.. he could have a /6 and kill someone.. hell i could! hehehe

i think this should get locked.. just because someone who has not read it yet.. reads the first 5 pages, gets pissed off and then wants to bad mouth the guy

OR

we feel like we should provide guidance on something that his parents should be involved in.  just like anything on this board.. we (meaning all) will do what the heck we want to do, no matter what anyone says.

on that note, the "dont race on the streets" has been beaten to death

the, "you need respect the people on this board" has been beaten to death

and the, "use the spellcheck button" has been beaten to death

good luck kid.. and hopefully.. this thread will no longer be our version of a keyboard UFC championship, but rather something that just goes away... and thusly, the creation of new refreshing topics beginning afterwards.

just my 2 cents mind you, but alas.. i guess, that what i said earlier contradicts my wish for someone listening to me and doing something that i want! LOL :D

I just edited the first post so hopefully that wont happen anymore, and I just ignore people looking to argue on here now.

Come now, RD. You can kill yourself with a pellet gun (225) if you hit the right spot or you can kill yourself with a shotgun (440). But one of the two makes it much easier, more dramatic and decidedly absolute.

Whatcha mean?  Your engine is called a 440 magnum.  Mopar's could have a 440 2bbl like in a Newport, or the Muscle cars like yours had the 440 magnum 4bbl.  The 440 only came one way in the Charger R/T  440 magnum 375hp.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

WARNING, WARNING, WILL ROBINSON~there is no 440 -2.  Newports had 383-2 and 383-4. New Yorkers had 440-4 no 2bbl 440s, unless your talkin' 3-2s on a 440.~Steve~

My '69 has a 383 Magnum in it. :yesnod:
The 383 Magnum was kinda like a Coronet R/T.
A motor you could convince your dad to buy, but still hold its own on Satuday night. :D

The 1967 Coronet R/T was the FIRST car to have the 440 Magnum engine. It came with the 440 Magnum or the 426 Hemi. No 383 for that car.

I didn't mean the Coronet R/T had a 383. I just meant it was conservative (a dad would order it in his new family car), but still powerful (Saturday night shootouts).

Sublime/Sixpack

Yes, I read what you typed, I just don't see the Coronet R/T as being anything but full Mopar Muscle, thats all.

Check to see if your Motor has the HP stamp in top. Non HP 440 c-body motors are not 375 horse but I think 350 & that changed to 280 in 71. LEON.

Well, if you're going to get technical I'd say the 225 would equate closer to a necked-down .223 or .22 long rifle and the 440 is more like a .44 Magnum.

I have a .223, and that must be a turbocharged or pretty hopped up slanty to equal that. :scratchchin:

It's a '68 motor so it wouldn't have the '71 hp rating unless it's busted. :icon_smile_big:

Yes, .223s are a pretty hot round. I've seen some pretty fast 225s too.

I beat a 4 cylinder Camaro in my 225 Charger back in the day. I'm sure it looked like a very impressive race to the old lady trying to pass us in her carbon-choked Ford Maverick.
