Howdy,

Well in getting down to the final launch but I have a few questions about pulleys and belts. I have NEVER seen this motor together and have no example to follow.

My 73 charger 440 AC, PS has a dual pulley alternator, standard AC compressor is off but I will have to use it till I can afford a Saden 508. So hears my deal:

The alternator appears it will have two belts that run OVER (and not touching) the water pump pulley, around the dual pulleys on the AC COMPRESSOR then down around TWO of the groves on the main pulley back to the alternator. This seems right,, no? The main pulley has 4 groves.

Then, heres the problem the PS PUMP has ONE pulley. It appears that it runs Over the water pump, and around the main pulley back up to the PS Pump. This looks to me like there will be only ONE belt driving the PS Pump and the water pump. Seems strange that there is only one. There is an extra grove on the water pump and the bottom pulley. Is there supposed to be a dual pulley on the PS Pump? I have pics if it will help.

Or if anybody has any pics of a stock set up.

PS The Alternator belts DO NOT ALIGN with the water pump pulleys.

I believe AC and NON AC cars have a different bracket setup.  Meaning  if AC was there and now no AC and you are trying to use the same brackets,etc.... you get my drift I hope. Don't know if that helps at all but gets the ball rolling anyway

I had the same problem.

Used stock 318 crank pulley. 440  4 grove was bent. groves 2,3,4 same as 3 grove.

Alt . /wp belt 7440 XL at Car Quest.

PS 7430 XL.

You have to find a wp pulley. 318 pulley will just clear if you sand the outer rims.

I have an AC car. Will use grove 3 for a modern freon 134 compressor some day.

Looking at the posts it is apparent that it uses one belt on the PS pump. Looks like I'll have an extra grove on my top and bottom pulleys.. unless I can find a dual pulley for my PS pump,,, ah another question  :smilielol:

If memory serves me correctly the stock set up was :

Grove 1 -waterpump with an idler pulley for tensioning

grove 2 -PS.

Groves 3,4 - A/C and dual pulley Alt.

The way I did it in the picture was to get running and I won't be using the stock A/c compressoranyway. Plan on new style 134 compressor.
