Yes, it is!!!   It's almost like there's oil on top of the ice.  NASTY STUFF!!!!

We had a qurater inch of freezing rain fall onto the roads and ice over down here in Ohio a week ago, and pretty much the entire county was shut down because of all the hills. Four fire departments got their trucks stuck, and one rolled their tanker. Can't imagine what that must be like.

Well, another foot fell today.  The plow is not cutting it anymore, I have to get the big blower working again to try and eat up some of the berms.  I finally found a belt that will work that I can pick up tomorrow at the Deer Park NAPA.  They've got two of them on will call for me.  Now the trick will be to get the Ram down the driveway in one piece (me too) to go get the belts.  The driveway is more or less a 1/2 mile luge run now.  I've lived here since '92 and never seen it this bad.  The M37 with all four chained up is slipping and sliding like never before.  After the short thaw yesterday, it now has about 3" of solid ice under the snow.  I've got chains for the the Ram and will probably use them tomorrow for the first time ever.  I will have to apologize to the wife for giving her a hard time for keeping so much frozen food on hand.  It comes in quite handy now as well as my stockpile of scotch.  Pray for me.   Bob

If the M37 is chained up and not doing well its time to just stay in! Of course you could buy some lockers for it!   

Better you then me!   

We havent had a snow like that in Kansas in 35+ years. We are about due!

I made it down the driveway this morning in the Ram in low 4wd without chains.  I just crawled so as not to gain any momentum on the glare ice.  I got the belts at NAPA and picked up some more scotch.  I tried getting back up the driveway without chaining up (big mistake).  About half way up I totally lost traction and slid into the berm.  It took me about an hour to dig around the wheels and chain up the front tires.  I was able to scratch myself up to the house after that.  I was quite proud of myself after getting the tractor driven snow blower back in operation and proceeded to go down the driveway gleefully blowing away a small portion of the berm.  Coming back up was a different story though.  Even with chains on the tractor and suitcase weights hanging off the back, it would not gain traction on the ice.  It took about 20 minutes for me to make it past the steep part and back up to the house.  We are in for about six more inches tonight with a stronger storm due in on New Years.  At least I was able to clean out some paths with the small snow blower for us to get back and forth to the shop and for our little dog to be able to take of his business.   Bob
