If you're lucky enough to find someone that is looking for that particular date code, you might get a few hundred out of it, depending on condition.

Otherwise, 383s are a dime a dozen.. even HPs. Can't hardly give them away. I've had one sitting in my garage for a couple of years with no takers.

That they made in far greater numbers than all their other big blocks.  Also the recent trend to strokers and monster strokers has left everyone clamoring for 400's at the least in the low deck and more and more wanting 440's again to go REALLY big.  It doesn't cost very much more (depending on parts chosen of course) to build a 500+ stroker from an RB base than a 383 stocker.

Yep... what Ghoste says.

Nobody wants a "nice old Mopar big block" anymore. They want a REALLY BIG big block. Stroker motors are so easy to build, nobody wants to waste their time and money on a 383 just to end up with the "I coulda had a stroker motor" syndrome.

Nice forged crank 383s have pretty much become door stops except for the numbers matching restoration crowd.

I sold a bare 383 block, 1970 vintage, with main caps for around $150 not too long ago. I'd say yours is worth at least $300 or more if you've got the crank and heads and the block is in good shape. They were 451 heads that year, right? People want those for sure.

I've had three Chargers and two of them had/have the 383. I love 383s. They are bulletproof and make lots of power for their size but as said before most people who don't care about authenticity will go with a 440.

71's got '346 casting heads heads. I've got a two pair in my garage. Not bad heads and flow similar to the more popular 906s and 452s, but nothing particularly desireable about them either. They are just typical open chamber heads.

Only if you have an immediate use for it. As stated above, 383 core motors can be had for less that $200. It's no bargain unless you have to have that particular date code.
