Is anyone running a spool on the street, may put one in but do not know, many thanks.

Ghoste

I very strongly suggest NOT running a spool on the street.  A spool is designed for straight ahead use only and will not provide ANY differential action when cornering whatsoever.  They corner by forcing the tires to hop sideways.  It's bad enough at the low speeds that drag cars corner at but it's downright dangerous at high speeds.

:yesnod:yep,dont do it.

TOO MUCH HORSEPOWER, IS ALMOST ENOUGH!

Better off with a Detroit locker !!  :2thumbs:

And even those are more for the real hardcore types.  How do you plan to primarily use the car?

Mike DC

Yeah, even a Detriot locker, the "safe" way of running a locked rear end on the street, is enough to spin the car in the rain if you're not careful.  It's basically okay for a cruiser but it can give you odd moments of extra understeer early in a corner.

Running a spool on the street won't cause God to reign fire down upon you or anything.  People do it all the time.  (They also wreck occasionally because of it.)  But realistically, you can't go driving around aggressively on the street anymore once it's spooled.  Not in anything other than a completely straight line anyway.

And it'll prematurely wear down the inside rear tire too.

I totally agree that it all comes down to how you are going to use the car, but also how much power you are going to try to put on the pavement, and driving skills.
I see it like this:
Spool: For high powered pro street style cars and pure dragcars, that dont turn around a corner anyway. Locker would also work here, on most applications.
Locker: For pretty much everything that needs to both turn, and bite. Downside is ratteling noise on sharp turns, but the only thing that holds up against big HP in the long run.
Posi (normal differential brake): Same as above, but wears out cuick, on big HP( 600+).
Open rear: for less than 200 HP, or people that has called their insurance company as many times as they have been a little sideways! :D

You have to quit using that term "POSI" :nono:
