quick question when installing torsion bars on a 73 charger does it matterwitch end of the torsion bar goes in  end it be the control arm or the frame end both ends look the same but cant tell,i know it matters from left to right side .allso was wondering can the torrson bar seal be put on out side of the car or be put on under the car ,and what is the best way to feed the torsion bar in through the frame from the front of the car then go into the control armor witch way? sorry about posting this here im needing to know quickly  thanks :2thumbs:

Nacho-RT74

doesn't matter which end goes where.

insert throught rear cross memeber and then slide throught up to control arm untill meet the hex faces on both ends.

seal... insert the T bar through cross member, fit the seal on T bar. Fit the T bar on control arm and then slide the seal up to the cross member. On 73 and laters is a little bit tricky cause the T bar cross member is behing the unybody frame and is not part of the unibody frame, so seal needs to goes through the unibody cross member hole... but is posible to do it.

I just did this and my method was a PITA but I couldn't figure out any other way. Since that bushing needs to go in between cross members, I pushed the bars all the way to the back  until the bulge hits the bushing,  took the cross member off pulled them out as a pair. Reinstall bushings on the floor, much easier to get the bar on and off the bushing that way. then lift the whole apparatus back over the exhaust (that was the tough part), reinstall crossmember then push bars forward

Stupid question, but whats the point of the seal?

Ghoste

You should grease that end of the bar and it's just a dust seal.  I think the grease is to keep down interior noise but I'm only guessing.

This has nothing to do with torsion bars, Nacho, but I just wanted to compliment you on your much-improved English. When you first came on the board I could barely understand what you were writing but now your words are more clear than many of the American users here. Do you attribute it to the frequent use of this site or have you been doing some homework? Also, I might add that I appreciate your vast wealth of Charger knowledge. Keep it up! Your presence here is much appreciated. :yesnod:

Nacho-RT74

well... thanks... and yes... I atribute it to the frequent use here ( and paying attention about all the mistakes I notice ppl here makes on its own languaje. I'm trying to keep safe from that )

I got also compliments at Carlisle, being my first time in USA.

you know! sometimes still is a little bit hard, being that I still think in spanish...well that's logical. Would it be diff if I live up there where wouldit be mandatory to think fast!

It wasnt hard at alll to understand you at carisle...do you take any courses?

AmadeusCharger500

Darnit!

You were at Carlisle Nacho?

I would really have liked to talk to you and show you the car that you helped me with (You might not realize how many people you really do Help!)

Nacho-RT74

yeap I was at Carlisle...I'm in the group picture :D.. but at the end didn't meet everybody. Too much to see,buy and enjoy, and not enough time. 3 days is not simply enough for a show like that, specially for newbies on show

No, never a course, more than english at school. My school teacher did live one block from me and took some extra clases but couple of months that's all.

one more question , when u have the torsion bars in place how far do u turn the lower control arm bolt i know it adjusts ur ride hight ,whats a good starting pointand do  u leave the car jacked up?  and would it be a good idea to have my brother on the other turning the bolt on the other side to make sure = turns on boths sides ?  thank u guys   and nacho ur grammer is mutch better then mine lol and thanks for the many years of help u had allways have info on my questions

Nacho-RT74

yes, car in the air, bolt completely out on stock T bars and then the adjuster lever/hex head piece completelly down as posible. Performance bar doesn't need the lever completelly down since slight tension on bolt means more height ( don't tell me how I know. I still have to relocate the lever, since bolt is allmost completelly out )

you don't need to turn both bolts at a time. Need to give tension before get down the car of course

and thanks

73chargers4404

ok i got both torsion bar  are in, now im having trouble getting them all the way in they both go 3/4 of the way in and  stop ,beleive they have go far enough in where its flat inside the socket so u can put the key in place my question is it normal to have"to drive them in alittle not even a 1/25" and if so please tell me how i thought about putting a peice of wood at the end of the bar is at the trans cross member and driving it the rest of the way but not sure .

and by the way the tread about puting lube on the dust boot and pushing it on a socket then sliding it on the t bar works good thanks

Nacho-RT74

if you got the lock ring groove cleared I think you are enough. But wait for another opinions.
