Temp gauge not working

Hello all. My temp gauge isn't working at all. The fuel and oil are showing half way. I suspect that the instrument voltage regulator is probably the reason. Until I get the energy to take the dash apart, I thought I could hook up a temp gauge under the dash.

Question: I should be able to test the signal coming in by putting a test light to the inside bulkhead connector, correct? And if I am correct and there isn't a signal, that means I have a problem with the wiring on the engine side or the sensor.

Thanks in advance for any help

There is no incoming signal, the engine temp sender is a variable ground. Remove the wire from the sender and ground it to the engine block, then turn on the key and watch the needle on the temp gauge; it should climb toward full hot. If not, the sender or wiring is faulty.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

John Thanks very much for the info. Have to wait until next weekend to try it.
