Over center spring problem

Is there a trick to installing the over center spring while the pedal assembly is in the car? I tried all afternoon without any luck. I can get close to sliding it over the clutch pedal pin but, it is about a 1/4" from going and I have tried everything I can think of to try and persuade it. I cannot get the pedal to go any farther down as it is hitting the firewall already.

the "trick" is too lift the pedal up before installing the bracket into the car with it already in the car it is hard on a good day , I did one last week suing a screwdriver to snap it over the pin on the pedal & yes it was a hard pull & it bent the screwdriver

I've done this quite a few times, its possible but tricky. First make sure the carpet is out of the way, next, remove the 2 nuts in the engine compartment for the clutch pedal bracket, then loosen the other nuts for the main bracket just about all the way but DON'T remove them. Loosen the bolts for the 3 rods at the front of the main bracket just a little. This will allow the entire assembly to be pushed over to the right and let the pedal go down a little further.If you don't have any help, when you move it over slip a piece of 1x2 or 3/4" plywood behind the bracket to hold it in place while you install the spring. You will still need to use a good size screwdriver to pry it on but its always worked for me. Once its on simply remove the wood, straighten it out and tighten everything back up, good luck.

You can also cut some wood wedges and drive them between the coils of the spring to expand its length, after the spring is installed simply pull the wedges out.

That is a good thought. I bet it might be a little difficult getting the wedges back out though.

It's wood. Would not be that difficult to tap them out with a hammer, or for that matter break them in two when the springs on. All depends on what way you want to spend your day. cheers

Once the spring is installed getting at it to tap on them would be difficult.

The coils on your spring are inside the bracket making it real hard to get to. I know my suggestion may seem like a lot of work but it really isn't and it does work, good luck.
