I enjoy watching the old TV programs I grew up with as a kid. Adam 12, Emergency, Dragnet, etc. I've started to notice a lot of Chargers inadvertently caught during filming. Here are pictures of some I've captured off the TV.

Wow  :o  Great job, thanks for sharing all that.  I remember watching Manix, they always had Mopars and a T5 ( I think ) bronze 69 R/T comes rumbling past a guard gate.
Now go find that one please. :icon_smile_big:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Mike DC

Cool pics.

And good eye.  Some of those must've been pretty brief & small to spot.

------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes it really gets interesting because studios might use the same car repeatedly.  If it's a controlled scene and the car is being driven by a crewmember on the shoot, then the car is likely part of the fleet of cars that the studio or producers had on hand.  Those cars are liable to show up in half a dozen different productions and wear multiple colors, etc.

The only surviving intact General Lee that Warner Bros still had in 1991 was repainted and used in "Forever Young."   It was later re-GL'd and showed up in the subsequent DOH productions in modern times.  Several other GLs weren't so lucky; they got sprayed black & bashed up for a TV movie in 1986.

There was a "Herbie" 1963 Beetle that showed up in some background traffic in "Knight Rider" a few times.  They had only wiped off the "53" numbers.  It was still wearing the off-white paint & racing stripes at the time.

Ghoste

Which tv movie bashed up the GL's Mike?

pettyfan43

It was called "Gladiator" Others showed up in TJ Hooker, Street Hawk, the short lived (A couple episodes) "Six Pack" TV series.

Can't think of any more right now, But the cars in TJ Hooker and Street hawk wore tan interiors and Vector wheels and the car in Six Pack was even orange, just no numbers or flag. Then there is the car(s) from Knight Rider.

UFO

I had posted some screencaps of a '69 in a Get Smart episode.
There on here somewhere.

timinator

Ghoste

They must have been a popular car in So Cal back in the day.  I spotted a 69 Super Bee once on Hawaii Five-O but theres no way I could tell you which episode.

nakita7

We've watched all the seasons of Columbo, seen a 69 Charger a couple times, one was an R/T, a 68 Charger in full view, drove across the shot (had mismatched wheels) and in one episode Columbo sat in a 71 Challenger convertible that was black with white R/T stripes.

Ghoste

BTW Timinator, how are you grabbing those shots?

timinator

I've spotted lots of other cool cars too but the 2nd gen Charger shape always catches my eye even if it's just a split second shot. I have a DVR that records the show and then I burn it onto a DVD. I put the DVD in my computer and can capture a screen shot from that.

69*F5*SE

Wow, you've done a good job of spotting them Chargers.

Yes the original, sorry I wasn't too clear there was I?  And it would be more accurate to say there was a 3rd gen getting more than a background scene moment.

yeah well i think  73TXrally  ..is on about the original  :scratchchin:  , yes there was more than one 3 rd generation ...  off the top of my head as well as the sublime with decals getting crushed by the garbage truck , there was  another think sublime 73 , just before the cop car hits the boat on a trailer ,  :scratchchin: ..must record that on to DVD so i can go frame by frame  properly  :popcrn: :scope: :yesnod:

Blade_1

Your set-top DVR's can transfer the vid's directly to your computer, and then with some native Windows apps, or even some 3rd party apps, you can playback frame x frame, without burnin' a disc...

Might need a screwdriver ;) to do the transfer, if your DVR doesn't have a live port on back.

Bremer

It was not an old show but, the Barenaked Ladies used a 68' General Lee for thier "One Week" video.

Daytona R/T SE

In the Nicholas Cage version of "Gone in 60 seconds" In the scene where he's running from the cops in the prettied-up Falcon-errr-I'm sorry- Mustang,he passes a 71 Charger several times...

Here's a blue 2nd gen from the original Vanishing Point. Right after he picked up the Challenger he drove by a used car dealership.

69_500

If I'm not mistaken there is a Green Charger 500 in the dealership window of the movie the Vanishing Point as well.

In the original "Gone" the Green car you see really early in the chase is the same one you see with the black panels, look at the wheels.

They just painted the flat black stuff for the garbage stunt.

timinator

A Charger BEHIND a police car? That's a first!

timinator

Ok, it's not a real car, but I thought this was clever. There's a model train program on a local channel and I caught this flipping thru channels. Somebody made a train set with a yellow Charger at a railroad crossing. A coincidence or an obvious reference to Dirty Mary Crazy Larry? It's a Daytona but I'm sure we have a closet Charger fan! I thought it was kind of funny.

And a cop car waiting on the other side of the tracks in case the Charger makes it through.  ;)

timinator

I saw the cop car. And behind that was a green fastback Mustang. I'm guessing the guy had seen Bullitt too.

tan top

talking of  Bullitt ....did you see the white 68 Charger  with the Hemi 15" full wheel covers in the line of traffic going up the street , had its passanger turn signal flashing !!   just as  Steve  McQueen..gets out of the sun shine cab ..& starts to walk back to the mustang . :popcrn:

I saw some 2nd gens and 3rd gens in CHiPS

rustafarian

I always hated CHIPS 'cause they flip a '68 or '69 GTO convertible in the opening credits of every episode.  Same with the Fall Guy,  sending that Cougar convertible off a cliff.  Those bastages!

I saw that blue one too. In an episode that aired recently, they busted some guys for street racing and one was in a pretty nice Roadrunner.

Ghoste

That episode is the one we have been discussing on the aero forum timinator, there are a couple of scenes in there with a Daytona in it.

timinator

I missed a Daytona? The Holy Grail of Chargers? Crap! I think I deleted that episode. I'll have to check it out. Same episode had a bunch of cars lined up and I'm prettty sure one of them is a 68.

Ghoste

You missed the Daytona twice and if I'm not mistaken, it's that red one with the hood up just a few cars to the right of the one you think may be a 68.  Look over the roof of the squad car.

timinator

Aha! I didn't even see the nose cone!

AKcharger

Amazing you guys can catch that stuff

SeattleCharger

Next time I see a charger in an old show, I will make a note of it.  I saw one in some obscure movie or old show?, was on side of road in scene, in background, but now I can't remember what it was,  :eek2:   :slap:
  Wasn't a car movie/tv show at all.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.
