yep I just got offered a pretty screaming deal on 64 galaxie..no rust, body just finished and in primer with a freshly rebuilt 406, a fresh 3 speed FMX transmission and wicked 2x4 intake and carb setup off a 427, cherry condition, cars apart but really really nice for 4 grand plus this old Panhead HD frame I have been trying to unload. I do believe I am going to snag it. guys broke and his work van burned up...so it looks like my next project is going to be a lightwieght s/s clone.

This post just sounds wrong in so many ways.  Waiting around for someone to lose everything so you can capitalize on their loss.  This economy sucks for all of us.  Well I guess not all of us, but your post came across all wrong.  It's great for someone to get a deal on a car, but hoping his life gets worse to get it , is just sick.  I feel for everyone working through this awful economy (including my own loss of employment)  Hope things turn around fast.

The thing about this is that some people see problems as opportunities. I personally couldn't afford either of those cars myself. If someone presented the 68 as an option to me and I could afford it, it would be HARD NOT to take advantage of it.

IF you give him the 15 k he wants for it, you may be getting a great deal, and you may be helping the guy on top of it.

While wishing misfortune on someone is a crappy thing to do, how is buying a car from someone who is down on their luck and actively trying to sell the car "taking advantage"? The way he worded the last part sounded bad. He should have said he doesn't think anyone else is going to buy the car and that it might be cheaper in the next few months so he's going to hold out and buy it at the cheaper price. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Im sorry but lets say someone advertised a charger in fair condition far below the value and i wanted a charger why do i need to feel bad about buying his/hers? Ive had a car i liked and had to get rid of it. Had a T-Bird, 390 CID...poor poor shape but i got it for 500$. Started restoring it only to realize i was in over my head. Was 16 or so..had no money, no job...granted thanks to parents i had a house to live in, food, and went to school so i wasnt doing bad..but i had to get rid of a car i loved. Parted it out...guy picked up a shell with the engine in it so he can use it in his mustang, had  a 428 sitting on a pallet i was going to put in..sold that also.

So i know what its like to loose a car, but i got the charger soon after and am quite happy now.

Someone loosing a car they worked so hard on, or was in the family for years is a very sad site weather it be economy related or not. If they never planned on getting rid of it then you really never want to see them let it go. But i wont feel bad about buying such a car or part.

BTW about the bulge hood...badly rotted in 3 places. So im going to see how low he will go. Also probably going to pick up a set of rallye tail lights and grilles from him though, they look mint.

That isn't right. That's what we all are talking about right now. Who ever does this kind of stuff should be a shame of them self's.. and shouldn't feel right if they get the car.

There's a lot of people like snoter around. I know of several people that love a bad economy so they can take advantage of people who are down on their luck. The funny thing is they are politicians who claim they are doing everything in their power to help people in need.

I agree that we should not wish bad fortune on anyone.

It's unfortunate that people are selling their cars at a time when they are in a pinch, but at least they have something to sell to hold them over. That was a selling point I used on the wife, hey if we ever get into a pinch or I lose my job, we can sell the car and it will hold us over for a few months.

i think the big deals we may hear about are for projects which require you to sell dirt cheap to move it...not likely on a complete running car. If I see a great deal, I'll jump on it if I can....might need to sell it in a few months to hold me over since we may all go down this time!
