Anybody planning to attend the Monster Mopar Weekend in September?  I decided I would make the trip there as opposed to the nats this year.

We've gone the last three years. Was a total timewarp seeing the nostalgia funny cars last year. Even met the current owner of one of my old funny cars.
I don't know about you, but I was very happy that the Richard Petty Driving Experience didn't show up for 2004. Way too noisy and had to walk an extra mile to get to the dragracing area.
I always enjoy the winged car event. Other than possibly the nats, it's rare to see that many winged cars in one spot. I loved the blue Daytona clone that was there last year. Took lots of photos of it to help with my project.
I think we're going we're going to leave my 71 cuda at home and take my wife's 73 cuda this year.
It's about a seven hour drive from where we live and it's a lot closer than the nats. look forward to going.
The Topeka show started again last year after ending in 2000. It was always a good show and should grow back to that status again. Both shows had decent swap meets considering the size of the show.

I'll be there as usual.  Charlie Glotzbach will be the guest of the Winged Warriors club, which is kinda cool.  Gotta dig up a few more #99 mementos for him to sign between now and then.  If anyone is interested, there is always a gathering of the Wing Car guys, the guest (Glotzbach this year), and a bunch of former St. Louis Assembly Plant workers at a friend of mine's house on the first day of the show (that Friday).  It's a BLAST to listen to the Nascar guys tell stories, plus I've learned a bunch about how these cars were built back in the day from the factory guys.

This show keeps getting better and better IMHO, but it'll suffer if they have to continually deal with the RP Driving Experience mess.  That year on the parking lot was MISERABLE...

69_500

I will be there at the show in the 500. I definately want to make it to the show on Friday to get to talk to the rest of the Aero owners. I'm looking forward to getting some great footage of the event this year as well.

Well since it's only about 20 miles away from my house, I guess I could make it...... ;D

Already scheduled the time off work :yesnod:  Wouldn't miss it!

Hey Hotrod-Can you post some of the pics of the Blue clone? I can't say I remember it from last year.  Might have had something to do with the fact that I was busy climbing all over HemiGeno's car taking pictures for reference for my own Daytona clone project...

41husk

I have been there for years.  I have not recieved any info on getting a swap spot yet.  If anyone has contact info please post.

'was it a blue clone or a B5 blue real Daytona? I remember seeing a real B5 blue daytona at that show before. I know there is one that isn't too far from St. Louis, and I'm pretty sure he goes to the Monster show every year.

Daytona R/T SE

There was a 70 Clone there ,it was kind of a blue/gray color ,like gunmetal-I wonder if that was it?

69_500

Gunmetal grey huh? It didn't happen to have a red stripe running from the nose cone to the wing did it?

Troy, if you are planning to go let me know.  You know you are welcome to stay at my house.

I don't remember a stripe, this car has been running around Illinois for years painted as an orange 70 R/T with a white Daytona wing on the back, he had just recently added the nose and changed the color...

That's the car that was on the old logo for the D-C.com site way back when, right?  Several people used that as an avatar if I remember right.

I originally thought you guys were talking about the blue #88 Daytona clone that comes to the show every year.  Guess not.

Danny, are you gonna hit that WW/NBOA "show before the show" at Rich Bolzenius' house on Friday?  Let me know and I'll get you all the particulars.  Not all of the aero/wing cars show up for it, but it's still a lot of fun and usually very informative.

hotrod98

Sorry for not responding sooner, I've been out in the shop putting a clutch in my 71 cuda to get ready for the Branson show.
Yes, It's the medium blue 70 clone with the stock back glass. Never did talk to the owner. It's a very clean car. It was the first time that I had a chance to compare a real Daytona to a clone side by side so to speak. I learned a lot that day.
I always come up and visit a friend of mine every year by the name of Gary Knirr. I sold him a 70 GTX a few years back and it's had a couple of more owners since then...long story. I've met some of his friends from the S.L. area, Greg Knobbe and Ty Thaylor (unsure of correct spelling). I should be there again this year with the 73 lime cuda.

Hey, Hotrod! I remember you! We were looking over the blue car and discussing Daytona cloning :yesnod:   Small world, huh?   Thanks for the pics!

hotrod98

Man, it is a small world. I started to mention in one of my replies that I talked to someone at S.L. who seemed to know his stuff about Daytonas and cloning and that I wished that I had gotten his name and number.  You're the one that showed me the difference in the hoods and how to alter the fenders. I appreciate the new info that you gave me that day.
I meant to ask you that day how the clones are accepted among the wing car owners?  I mean after all, they are looking into building clones themselves to drive while their original cars stay in the garage. Do you think that they would consider a sub-chapter of the wing car group just for the clones? I think that I heard one of the clone guys, possibly you, here on the forum mention that he was a member. I would like to get more info about the gathering at Monster Mopar Weekend.
The Dodge dealership here is having a car show this weekend and I need to go clean up 3 or 4 of my cars to take out there. I need to talk to you more now that I know how to get in touch with you.

If I can get Friday off of work that week, then yeah I'll definately be hitting the winged warriors function on Friday. I don't figure I"ll see a whole lot of Daytona's or 500's but then again unless you go to Talladega every 5 years you don't see a ton of them at one spot anyways. But its the meeting people and getting to know more of the people who are into the same cars as I am. That is what I always look forward to. That and being able to film it now.

From my experience talking to the Winged Warrior guys/gals Clones are cool with them, as a matter of fact there are several clones in the club, once the website is back up, you'll find tons of pictures there, of both original cars and clones. I think I'll e-mail Sue and see what's up with the website....

I'll planning to be there this year, assuming I can work it into the schedule.  Probably just Saturday.  The 68 won't be ready though, so don't make fun of me if you see me in my Honda.

Is there going to be an "official" DC.com meet-up anywhere?  It'd be cool to meet some of you guys, if possible.  I was there last year (first time) but I was hung over and hot and it took me forever to find the damn swap meet area.  (some a**hole in the vendor area told me there was no swap meet)  I left early and pissed off.  And dehydrated.

What's this about the petty driving experience thing?  Sounds like trouble...that's not going on this year, is it?

Recharger,
If you never found the swap meet then that means that you never found the car show. The vendor area is in the drag racing area. The show area and swap meet area are always side by side in the infield of the oval track.  Don't miss out this year.
The RP driving experience wasn't there last year and has been permanantly moved to a different weekend. The worst part of this show is having to park, walk all of the way around the dragstrip and all of the way down to the circle jerker bleachers and across the track into the infield. Obviously, the best thing is to bring a mopar and drive right into the infield.  There are some people transporters running but we never seemed to find one. I think the nostalgia funny cars are supposed to return as well as the winged cars.

Thank you! I may not know until the show is a lot closer - my work schedule is fried right now. It sounds like a cool show to attend though.

Thanks, hotrod.   I actually did find the swap meet and car show last year, it just took me a while to figure out where it was.   I'm not sure if the signs were poorly marked or if I was just in a daze, but I didn't find the infield show/swap for quite a while.   Like I said though, part of the problem was I asked someone at a vendor booth about it and they told me there was no swap area.   Bum.   Anyway, I hope to be there this year too, and hopefully I'll get an earlier start on things than last time.   Surely I'll find that $10 mint woodgrain steering wheel this time around....   :icon_smile_tongue:

I will be there. Should have the '69 ready for the show by then.

I won't miss the Richard Petty driving experience either..couldn't even hold a decent conversation with our friend when they were running two years ago.
