My First Rant--Environmental Groups

I know a lot of guys on here have mentioned this before, and I decided to make my first rant about it. :scratchchin: I had a random news station turned on my TV about an hour ago (Its on AC/DC Live At Donnington now :punkrocka:) and there was a big speech by some weird Environmental Group. Normally, this would not catch my attention, because it makes me sick hearing these idiots talk, but one thing got me mad. The big leader speaking started talking about classic cars, and I started to listen. He kept talking about how these "polluting dinosaurs" need to be rid from the road. He then got into some emission numbers about classic engines. He mentioned the 351 Ford Windsor, the 350 Chevy, and the 440 Chrysler. Then he mentioned the emissions put out by a comparable horsepower modern engine, and everybody started clapping and crap.

What really ticked me off was what he said next. "These vehicles produced before or during 1974 are not useful. None are daily driven or used for anything. (BS) They have NO reason to be on the road, or even operable. What I believe should be done has three different options.
A) Engine Disablement!! (For God Sakes!?)
B) Engine Removal!!! (WTF?!?!?)
C) CAR DESTRUCTION!!! (:cryin:)
He then talked about forcing these, and making them government policy, stopping modern muscle car production, and some other crap. I turned it off...

This just made me so mad. Trying to force people to give up their hobby, or in some cases, their only form of transportation, just to prevent global warming that has not been proven! But what about all that crap floating up from China? No smoke scrubbers or cleaners on their power plants or factories, and these people are worried about a freakin 440 in a Charger... Wouldnt it suck to have some feds come and fill your original HEMI Daytona or 440-6 Superbird engine with concrete, or remove and scrap it, or even take your entire car?

Just a rant of mine. :engel016: What do you think? This might be a stupid rant, so say if it is. :2thumbs:

In your rant on china you forgot the lead base paints they use on children's toys and the list could go on  :eek2: . They can take my old cars right after they revoke the 2ND amendment.  :Twocents: Your rant is worth ranting about.  :2thumbs:

Maybe if people are forced to dispose of their old cars, we can bail out the Big 3 by buying new cars   :nana:

Yes, there are people who hate our cars.  I have had the pleasure of meeting some of them while crusing around downtown Columbia, Mo in my POS 89 Iroc-Z last year.  A group of them was hanging out near a local hippie shop, handing out enviromental fliers during a Twilight festival and being generally a bother to anyone within earshot. ::)  They flipped me off at a light for having a "air and noise polluter", to which I just laughed at them and then cranked up some classic Megadeth to drown them out as I took off down the street.  :D  The same group also wanted to stop all nuclear research, including medicine, because of the waste buildup that they are afraid of.  Hope they never need radiation cancer treatments then.  Some people are so clueless it is a wander that they were ever born in the first place......

As for the envrionmental wacko plans, I have a few of my own to counteract them, but will take quite some time to finish.  One is the creation of a car museum/fortress setup that will prevent such riffraff from gaining entrance in.  It will be made fireproof incase they get any ideas of firebombing it (via car dealerships with Hummers that they like to target).  That is all I can say for now......

Some of our cars pollute less than a Prius because they're driven so little!

Funny thing you posted about this because I was thinking of crap like this today and I realized a few things 1. my Belvedere gets about 15 mpg city which is great because most of the time I am stuck in traffic when ever I leave the house and 43 years later they have improved that by maybe 5 mpg for cars the same size. Not to mention my engine is larger and more powerful. 2. If my car gets totaled beyond repair very little of it is going to windup in a landfill a new car most of it will windup there. Plus when I get into an accident there is going to be very little clean up of fluids and other crap like that while the rescue crews leave their vehicles idling the whole time they take care the clean up. 3. Since old cars were made with only the basics and all the parts were made within a closer distance to the assembly plant than new cars. New cars are like the UN the parts come from so many different countries and the parts don't just appear at the assembly plant they are brought there on trucks, trains, and ships and last I checked those vehicles put out emissions and not to mention all the energy and resources used to make all those parts as well. So now who's car is more environmentally friendly? :shruggy:

What i really resent is the way the "Marketing Depts". use the "green" "Eco friendly" buzz words to sell crap. It's like disgusting... and usually a boldfaced lie.
My gut feeling is the production of new automobiles (including tree hugging prisis and gonna save the world from us insights) is really much more harmful enviormentally then the entire fleet of well maintained and rarely driven classics...
The impression i get it there are simply too many vehicles (not to mention they'll give any jackalope a freakin driver's licence) and too much production capacity which for economic reasons must be kept at full production to benefit shareholders...
But that's my opinion... it would be nice if we could idle a large percentage of the hot air and BS produced in the world, especially at the Advertising Depts' Meetings...

So, Who and What group was saying these things Wing?..  :scratchchin:    :popcrn:

This is why we need to keep supporting the SEMA organization.

They're our ace in the hole against this stuff.  They represent a multi-million dollar industry that stands to be wiped out if the musclecar hobby is curtailed.  It's a group that will actually spend money to fight against these proposals at the legislative level.

And thanks to a media which loves a good alarmist tale, these formerly fringe groups are becoming more and more mainstream.

lol I laugh at the hippies who get mad at me while driving their electric hybrids. The prius pollutes WAY more then any muscle car ever will. Sorry but the production of that damn battery they use causes a dead zone around where it'd made. nothing grows no animals live in the area around the plant where those batteries get made and supposedly their environmentally friendly? It's just like cars we charge with electricity. Until we can sustain a wind/water/solar generated power supply there is no point for electric vehicles. We produce less pollution using a gas motor in our cars then an electric one because of the simple fact your using way more fuel to produce the electricity to use the vehicle for the same amount of time you would use a gas motor. I have no idea how much but your using X amount more fuel to produce X amount of energy which is less then the same amount of fuel. It's the whole one conversion produces more usable energy then 2. 1 conversion-gas explodes n the cylinder direct powers the vheicle, 2 conversions fuel(likely coal) used to produce the electricity, and the release of that electricity from a vehicles stored battery

I'm sick of reading this garbage here. Unless you are a leading, acknowledged, and peer reviewed scientist in a specialty that has something to do with the climate then shut the F*%# Up. You do not know anything about the topic (pro or con). Stick to talking about Chargers.

Would you place this quote in the other environmental thread going on??

We rant about these clowns, but they're not really most of the problem.  I think they're largely being used as a public scapegoat for unpopular laws.

Dig hard under a clunker bill, and you'll almost always find other (corporate) interests really bankrolling it for normal financial reasons.  They're probably thrilled that we'll believe it's a couple dozen tie-dyed potheads with picket signs causing the unpopular legislation, and not their muti-million-dollar lobbyists.
