You are absolutely right Mike, I'm forever telling people talking about environmental crap to follow the money trail and they'll usually find the real motivation.

I'm sick of reading this garbage here. Unless you are a leading, acknowledged, and peer reviewed scientist in a specialty that has something to do with the climate then shut the F*%# Up. You do not know anything about the topic (pro or con). Stick to talking about Chargers.

Well, I am a acknowledged, peer reviewed scientist, but I would not classify myself as leading (there are many more scientists that rank higher than me as I only recently recieved my Ph.D. in my area).  Still, I would be classified an expert in an environmental specialty area.  Yes, my area of inorganic chemistry does interact both directly and indirectly with climate issues, as generally we are the ones who have to come up with solutions to the problems at hand.  Case in point, while in college, I worked on projects that involved energy storage materials, catalytic materials, as well as designing various environmental sensors (for which I recieved my Ph.D.).  Most people don't realize what chemists really do as the journal articles are usually written in scientific jargon that is above their heads, sometimes done intentially for good reasons to keep funding alive for projects that fail.  Unfortunately, this leads to the public mistrusting scientists to varying degrees as they do not want the Frankenstien syndrom (science run amuck) occurring in their neighborhood.
As for my feelings from my earlier post, I get tired of constantly being bombarded by ignorant people (some with high degrees) about my hobby, since they see an old car = pollution problems, reguardless on how the owner cares for it.  As I have pointed out to many of them, I try to prevent any pollution issues before they happen with my cars.  But, not everyone is considerate about such issues, which turns the tide against us.  It only takes a few careless actions (pouring unwanted oil/antifreeze down drains, leaving your car constantly detuned, throwing trash out the window, etc.) from another car owner for us as a group to get the blame, since we are more of a viewable target than the common car owner.  As I have expressed before, I intend on building a car museum for my cars, which will probably be their permanent storage area in the future.  Unfortunately, I can see a future path that will lead to the passage of laws restricting usage of antique automobiles down to only special occations (ones needing permits, $ for the politicians).  I personally think that is sad, but it could very well happen within our lifetimes if we do nothing to protect our hobby.  Supporting SEMA is a good way to prevent this from occurring.  My disrespecting comment in the previous posting was toward those who automatically lable me as a polluter just because I prefer to build (recycle) my daily drivers from used cars, rather than buying a new plastic car every few years for no real purpose other than spending $.......

Now that was funny!

The whole thread topic really boils back to intolerance.

A lot of "educated" types are very tolerant about other people's choices as long as those things happen to agree with their own personal preferences.

What I find interesting is reading other's opinions. They bitch about old cars, but have you ever noticed those diesel trucks with Giant clouds of black smoke pouring from the stacks? How about farting, thats polluting, but it's not like it's gonna kill a bunch of people or things, unless you have only eaten fiber bars and beans for the last 10 years! I almost find it funny how stupid some of these Prius-driving,new age hippies are!

If the religeous community takes an interest in outlawing musclecars however,  then watch out!!!!

that's the only people I fear, they're WAY freaky! and would make it happen in some twisted way. Funny that they worship a long haired hippy who probably didn't pay taxes, was a drunk and hung around hookers! some role model, that jesus guy....  :icon_smile_tongue:

wow... didnt know you thought of me that way.  :scratchchin:

Am I freaky?  I own 2 chargers, a plymouth roadrunner, a 05 dodge hemi quad cab, and a dodge neon.  I guess you should be afraid of me.. i may promote legislation that interferes with your convoluted opinion of what i believe in.  ::) :rotz:  :shruggy:

sorry for the tangent.. but his statement was uncalled for as it has nothing to do with this thread.  if he deletes his.. i will delete this.

it wasn't meant to be taken personally, I was joking around like everyone else. In this country, not to derail the thread-the religious right is a mighty force, hence my comment in jest, doing a 180 on the religious right stereotypes. I apologize though, I should know better, I live in the south!!

I'd like to see them "take out" my 73 for $3500 without getting shot.

yep bring it on I've got alot of "clunker's" bring it B*tches.

Personally I look at these articles and laugh. Modern vehicles that actually put out their factory rated emissions level? Not on your life. I know of to many newer cars that have something like an o2 fail which basically null and voids the emissions systems proper function that while not putting out bad emissions like our cars is according to these expert environmentalists very bad for the planet.

Mike DC

What's frustrating is that they could actually do some good if they'd set these programs up fairly.  But they won't.

Imagine if it only applied to cars that are over 10 but under 25 years old, the only yardstick for correctness is that particular car's original emission standards (not the current new car ones), and THE ONLY INSPECTION OR MEASUREMENT WHATSOEVER IS THE TAILPIPE SNIFFER.

That might actually do some good.

Environmentalists, kill em' all and let God sort em' out :flame:

So here's a dilema for them to deal with...   my 68 is getting a 6.1L swap....    I'm going to keep all the emissions stuff on it and functioning...    so If I added cats it would likely pass a modern smog test...     what do they say about that ?

"ahh umm ahh.. it's emissions at speed won't pass tho"
if they threw a clunker law at us they would try and find a way to get rid of them ether way, be it no "crush zones" or the simple fact there is no abs.
