Boy, does that bring back memories of a little over 10 years ago up here.  I feel for you Doug.  Hang in there bro, it can only get better.  We got hit, but not that bad.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

What North Jersey are you living in. We didn't get any ice at all, only rain for two days straight. I'm in Bergen County.

Wow that sucks Doug...  you  got it a lot worse than I did up here.  :P

The power flickered a couple times and I lost the cable ( phone / TV / broadband ) for about 30 hours.

One of my friends lost power and the sump pump quit... flooded basement.

We went thru that ice storm stuff here in Kansas last winter. I was a lucky one on my block and had power thru it all. A buddy of mines house was without power for 4-5 days. Ugly mess all around town.

Yikes! It's scary that I am only 30 minutes from that area. It's gonna be mid-60's here today.

A LOT of southern NH and central Mass looks exactly like those pics Doug posted. I had no power from Thursday night to 2 yesterday afternoon; there are sections of Mass and NH that may not have it back for 3 weeks. We still have roads that are impassable due to downed trees, poles, and power lines. PSNH (our regional electric company) has been getting crews from as far south as North Carolina, west from Ohio, and some out of Canada. Been a fun weekend to be on the Fire Dept as well.... haven't had a full night's sleep since Thursday; between opening up roads, pumping basements, multiple CO detectors, and two structure fires in neighboring towns we've been hopping non-stop. And it will probably continue until the majority of folks have their power back.

I spent a tad over 12 hours out with the fire dept. on Friday here in Lyme NH. We were not hit quite as bad up as those south of us but plenty are still without power. We were only out for most of a day. Much better than the last wicked storm where we were without power for close to 6 days. Picked ourselves up a generator when I was called out for that one.

Its supposed to warm up today, which should melt all the ice off up here. Driving around with clear a sky and sun made for some beautiful sights. Quite the contrast from how deadly it is.

Looks like the one we had last year. Some parts of Kansas was out for over a month  :eek2: Im glad you had a generator and your power is back on. The only good thing about it was I got a lot of firewood for this year ::)

Doug, glad to hear you guys got power back up so quickly and NO damage to the cars !  :2thumbs:

I know firsthand the devastation an icestorm can cause....i lived and worked through the most devastating icestorm on record. It was surreal for a 2 week period up here in Jan '98. Major hydro towers were toppled under the sheer weight of the ice and billions of dollars of damage. Most of the hydro grid had to be rebuilt. Some rural folks were w/o power for over a month. Generators were made out of unobtanium. I sure hope we never see that again.

Man, that's some really nasty looking stuff. Glad you made out ok.
We rarely get an ice storm around here, but now & then we do lose power during the winter. I finally bought a generator this year...now watch, now that I have it, I'll never have an occasion to use it.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

woah that really sucks, amazing pictures tho

For those who have never lived through an ice storm you can take it from me, you DO NOT want to...

1991 we went through it. We were just coming back to Rochester from visiting my parents in SUPER HOT, RECORD BREAKING, sunny Florida... We returned to about an inch of solid ice in the driveway. The taxi driver slid into our fence. 2 days later we were nice and warm and then BOOM....  The City of Rochester came to a sliding halt.

Some areas didn't have power for a few weeks. My inlaws went over 3 weeks without power and their basement was flooded up to the windows.

The street I grew up on was almost completely without trees. Still is... You just wouldn't recognize your own street if you opened your eyes in the middle of it..

Sure that ice is beautiful. The damage it causes is devastating.
