A new appreciation for the performing arts.

So my spouse and i just got home from seeing Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in downtown St. Paul and it was an excellent show!  It was part of my companies Christmas party tonight and some of the guys at work declined to go because they were not fans of musicals.  Well, neither am i, but after seeing this show i have a new found appreciaton for the performing arts.

I did a lot of arts and entertainment reporting/reviews for the newspapers I worked for and always enjoyed it... well, most of it. I've never been able to sit through a ballet or opera but as far as theater, I'm there.

Yeah, I have to say that there was only one time I ever wanted to walk out of a live theatre production.... and my wife wanted to as well.. so we did. Otherwise, there's no reason not enjoy a good show.

I look at it as movies where the actors come and act it all out for you.

I've seen a bunch of plays at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-On-The-Lake. It's 20 minutes from home and we always manage to get some free tickets at least once a year. I've been to Stratford Festival once - just this past summer. I'd go again - same vibe as Shaw but with different plays and different actors.

For the big production stuff, there's Toronto. I've seen Mamma Mia (I had to drive everyone there. I wasn't sitting in the car for 2 hours... but it was not entirely "unenjoyable".), Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat. Some others too. I'll need to have my wife remind me. 
I resisted going at all to any of these, but I have to admit, they are entertaining.

The one we walked on: Phantom of the Opera. I had no idea what was going on at almost every point. At intermission, I asked my wife if she was enjoying the show and the response was not enthusiastic. So we left.

Excellent movie! My preference is for movies where stuff blows up but my wife (gf at the time) got me watching the old classics and there are a bunch of them that are just outstanding. Musicals and all.

We have a family tradition of watching White Christmas every year. Glad you enjoyed it.

My wife acts and sings and does a lot of theater.

I see a lot of shows.

She gets to go to Ted Nugent with me.
