so..the Scow is running great, and apart from the rear quarter panels and new glass theres nothing left to do really...so, of course, I am itching for another project, one I will have no schedule for, unlike the Charger, which I did as quickly as possible....now...I have always been fascinated with the early 60's factory lightwieght S/S class cars...so....

I can get a finished, primered 64 galaxie  roller real real cheap in perfect shape plus a done 427 to go with it. I did some snooping about and found a place (Crites) that makes ALL the replica fiberglass body parts, intakes, etc and suspension parts to re-create a Thunderbolt type S/S car...so...I think that maybe my next project, a stripped down all business Super Stocker in white and red....and maybe even race it once in a while.

not Mopar, and therefore vile, but.....

The "Thunderbolt" was a Fairlane or Falcon based lightweight - No?..
I'd like a '63 Galaxie 500 XL sportsroof 427 myself...

like this puppy here.. http://www.mustangandfords.com/featuredvehicles/mufp_0508_jack_hazelgren_1963_galaxie_lightweight/index.html
But the '64 was the most popular and produced of all the Galaxies.
BTW Frank - the newest Collectable Automobile (which I'll lend ya' if ya' like) has a history of the Galaxy from '59-'74... did you know they made a lift off roof version for nascar in '62?.. called the
"Starlift"? NASCAR allowed it to be used only once.

the thunderbolt was indeed a fairlane..

                                    the Galaxie

this is exactly how my mom's short lived '63 looked... it died of a cracked head on the 390 after a few Mos.

it was a big heavy sucker for sure - but I loved it...

  here's the special "Starlift"...

here's a great link..
http://www.fredlorenzen.com/Pictures.htm  and...
this photo of a DAYTONA can be found partway down, i haven't yet read all the text, perhaps it's inclusion among all the Fords is explained..  :shruggy:

  awaiting details...  :popcrn:

Yes, Thunderbolts were Fairlanes, the Galaxies were lightweights and the Falcons were A/FX cars.  All basically the same thing and certainly all the same intention.  We had a few tricks of our own though didn't we? :icon_smile_wink:

a fairline would be cool, but I can get the finished roller galaxie for 1/2 the going price for a decent fairlane, so....
