hey everyone! i saw some neat tricks on the show TRUCKS! and figure to post this in case no one ever watches that show.. its for rust removal (if u have rust in pits esp.) and restoring aluminum

RUST REMOVAL:  youll need a 12 volt battery charger with at least 2 amps constant current, Arm&Hammer Super Washing Soda and a steel rod

1. Subemerge a part that needs rust removed into water
2. Add 1 teaspoon of the Soda for every 1 pint of water
3. Put negative terminal on part and positive terminal on steel rod (have a rod thats longer than the water is deep and clip the terminal to the top)
4. set charger on constant 2amp service and let sit for 48 hrs (or whenever u cant resist to see the progress haha).

this is pretty much the same concept as chrome plating but it removes all the rust better than sanding (and trying to get the pits out..youll loose alot of precious metal) but keep in mind to use it in a well ventilated area since if gives off some nasty fumes that are flammable!

ALUMINUM RESTORE: Need oven cleaner, high speed drill (electric or air), wool bonnet, microfiber polishing cloth and metal polish
1. spray oven cleaner on a section and leave on for 10 min (never wipe off just leave it on through the process)
2. attach wool bonnet to drill and add metal polish and go to town
3. clean off with the microfiber cloth

i cant remember what the TRUCKS! host says itll do to alumuinum (whether it restores it or gives it a brushed look) but i would try it on a piece of scrap AL just in case you dont like the look of it

I havent had the chance to try either one so if someone has the guts to try... post some pics up!   :2thumbs:
