The New Charger

Hey, this was probably discussed in the past, before I was posting.  But I was pretty disappointed with the new issue Dodge Charger that came out a couple years ago.  Don't get me wrong, it's a cool car in it's own right.  I've seen some that look very, very good.  But I hate that they didn't give props to the muscle design - like we've seen done so much better with the mustang and challenger.  I really believe that if they would have made something that resembled the 1970 body style, and priced it beginning at around 20k for the base model - we'd be seeing them all over the road.

I hope Detroit reads this thread, and gets a new body style out in 2010!   :icon_smile_cool:

If I recall correctly it was brought once before in the past three years and there was one other guy that didn't like it and the members here ran him outta town.

I'd let it go as it is history now.   :Twocents:

Ah, a fresh topic for discussion.

Actually, even though I still don't like the styling I'm not going to throw rocks at the new anymore.  We live in screwy times so we get screwy cars.

And I'm sure Detroit is not reading your message. Remind me again how many Chargers have been sold to date?

Hahahahah :smilielol:.....I think it's funny because - here in Australia - we'd love to see ANYTHING new from Chrysler or Dodge and in particular a new Dodge Charger. I was lucky enough to be over there at the Nats last year and - whilst I'd love it to be a 2 door - I found the Chargers I saw to look great and actually drove one for a couple of weeks.

I'd have a new Charger tomorrow.

FWIW, if they are around in 2010 and if they do decide to restyle it then, I think it's a pretty safe bet that it'll remain a four door sedan.  There may be the usual taillight and grille tweaks along with a bit of rebend on the body panels but don't expect them to stray far from the formula.  They have a two door niche car for the specialty market, it's the everybody needs one (or two) car they want to sell.

Your opinion of the new Charger is fine..............as long as you have say nothing negative about it around here. ::)

I think screwy thinking has been around for awhile.

A 77 Chrysler Cordoba is OK I guess, but I still don't think Dodge should have put Charger emblems on it.    :stirthepot:

See, that's my thing.  As I said in the first message, the new body style is a cool enough car in it's own right.  In fact, it's kind of tough looking.  But it's adopted, not biological.  Same last name - different genetics.

magnum sedan is decent car, some ignorant people called it Charger, not sure why. This is one of the reasons why Chrysler is going down with the Ford and Chevy, lack of good design team. It would be risky to buy chrysler product right now, once the go out of business who will be selling parts for them.

Granted... I haven't had to go through the past fights, but I think it's been a just fine thread.  Slightly snarky, sure.  But not without valid and disagreeing opinion expressed from both sides.  Lock it?  Hell no!  I'm actually glad to know that there are charger die-hards that love the new body.  I may not like it myself, but to each their own.

I'm sorry the thread was a sore spot to tender wounds!  Just curious of the thoughts on the model, and now I know all I ever wanted.  This will be my last post in the thread.  Unless, of course, if someone pokes at me - in which case I will poke back strictly for my own entertainment. :poke:  :2thumbs:

When I see the pics of the discocharger and the omnicharger, it reminds me of a debate I had with Chris G. quite a ways back.  I was defending the 4th and 5th gen Chargers saying that each one was the right Charger for it's time.  One in an era of cocaine and disco with inflation and Elvis dying Mustang II's and Trans Ams that were all about tape stripe performance.  The other car came from a time of imposed fwd econoboxes and Cyndi Lauper with multicolored hair and Boy George.  IIRC, Chris stated they were unworthy junk and my argument was that they were all the Charger Dodge was able to give us in their respective eras but the new Eurocharger could have/should have been so much more.
I recant my earlier argument somewhat and I'll say that even though I still think the Discocharger and the Omnicharger were the representive Chargers of their day, the new Eurocharger is representive of it's time as well.  It may not be the perfect car for me but I don't look at BMW's and such either even though it's a popular vehicle.

the Charger for 2011 still has 4 doors, yes. But, the new design is pretty cool none the less. it is much more agressive looking. it has enough styling cues from gen 1 or gen 2 Chargers to make it immediately recognizable as such. As a gen 3 Charger owner, I absolutely hated that Chrysler dropped the namelate on the current model. The b body Charger is my favorite car and has been since I first saw a new 1966. I know what the new proposal looks like as I work there and have worked on the clay model since it's inception. I can only hope that mopar will survive and be able to produce the new LD
