05 SRT 4 or 09 SS!?!?!?

Ok So I've done alot of car driving over my days off. I've driven about 5-6 04 and 05 srt-4s with varying mods from bone stock to stage 2 with all the toys to cars where you would say what was the owner thinking.

I've driven a brand new 08 caliber srt 4 and its a beast and the torque steer was horrible even in 3rd gear. Either way the price was a bit out of my range and is a bit over priced for the amount of car you get imo...

I just drove a 09 cobalt ss and really enjoyed it i must say. And its priced right for the amount of car you get...

But the problem now is I'm kinda torn between two cars and which to buy.... I'll explain both...

The first is

2005 SRT 4
Silver, not my first choice for colour but car is flawless
30,000 KM
Only driven one winter by the guy who first owned it. That guy only put 6-7000 km on the car before selling it. The car has been owned by a chrysler mechanic since.
Stage 2 with all the turbo toys (intercooler sprayer, 4 way adjustable boost controller, 100 + octane switch)
Stage 2 coil overs (able to adjust ride height only)
Hotchkis sway bars,
Mopar strut bars
Mopar short shifter
Mooger Bushings
Engine mount (the one that makes it sturdy with no vibartion)
Oil Catch can
Mopar cold air intake
Mopar exhaust.
Mopar Blowoff Valve
Kicker sound system.

Body and interior is flawless. He also has some extras kicking around that I can prob get him to throw in like a bigger intercooler and stuff.

Buddy was asking $16,000. But the add mentioned snow tires which he has since given to his mother. So I asked him how much now that he doesn't have them and he said $15,500

I'm hopping and think I may be able to get it for $14,000-14,500... He sounds like he wants to sell it.

The Second is

2009 Cobalt SS
Probably get it in black

The options I'd get are

Limited Slip Diff
Sunroof
USB port for Ipod

Test drove the 2 door version today (would get a 4 door with no wing) and this car is smooth... GM hit the nail on the head with this car. Power on demand, handles like a dream and a good price to boot. I can get it out the door taxes and everything for $25,732. Comes with a 5 year / 160,000 km powertrain warranty to boot. The interior is nice and well put together. It is QUIET in this car. We drove it with the plastic covering the spoiler flapping in the wind and you didn't even notice it.

Now both cars drive great. I think the srt-4 has a bit more power due to the mods... Should be around 285 hp according to Mopar. But the SS comes with 260 right from the factory... I'm not to worried about this other guy kicking the shit out of the srt 4. He seemed to have taken good care of it but you never know...

I know you guys might be a bit biased  :brickwall: but please try to put the Mopar vs GM stuff aside!

What do you think?

:iagree:   I love mine too.  Purchased it new, 67,000 miles so far and I have only had to replace tires and change oil/filter.

So I made an offer on this one

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-Dodge-2005-SRT4-16-000-obo-W0QQAdIdZ62057299

he already agreed to lower it to 15,500 cause he doesnt have the snows anymore.

Offered him 14 with all the extras hes got kicking around. Larger intercooler and boost controler. Also has all the stock parts. He was a little leary.... He said $15,000 with the extras.

I might take it at that price.. It was a real clean car and as much as I'd like to save some more money I think its fair...

Hes had it for sale since sept i think so its been a while... But I think if i want the extras he aint gonna let it go for 14,000.. without the extras maybe 14,000-14,500 but it would be nice to have all the stock parts and the intercooler and boost controler.

At close to 11K less I wouldn't bother with the SS however I wonder about the 30 mpg for the SRT. Still the money saved would offset whatever the mileage was off.

CFMopar

Well both were rated at 30mpg... I'm sure its a bit less now with the stage 2 kit. But in order to get it anywhere near that mark you're gonna have to keep the engine in vacuum which will be a chore itself im sure :P

Back N Black

I would say go with the SS, there is allot of comfort in knowing that you have a 5 year 160km warranty. If its a young guy selling the Neon, with the performance upgrades, its probally rode it hard.   :Twocents:

CFMopar

Well He wasen't that young... Plus he was a chrysler Mechanic.

Either way I called him today and offered 14,500 and he took it.

So Wed's I'll have my new car!

Off the topic, but what do you think of Jack Layton and his mob in the last couple of weeks?   :rotz:

TheGhost

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

CFMopar

If you drove the cobalt you would consider it to... Trust me...

On the other note.. Jack Layton makes me wana  :brickwall:

I hope the GG makes it go to another election. Cause If it does, this stun will surely give the conservatives a majority.

One thing one can hope fore after all this drama is that it gets more people out to vote.
