I don't know what year car you're talking about, but if it's a 71/72 B-body, I have the solution for you.  Many years ago I swapped a 340/727 into my 318/904 with 8.25" '72 Charger. I had no money to replace the rearend at the time. My original driveshaft wouldn't work. One of my drunk buddies had just rolled his 318/727 66 Charger-he offered me the driveshaft for free-I said "That'll never work" But wtf it's free!  Worked like a charm.

Later, with the same car I came across a low-mileage cheap 440/727. I had grenaded the 340 :eek2:

Still with the 8.25 rearend in it, I swapped in the 440/727 using the '66 driveshaft.

Worked fine.

Several years later I had another '72 Charger that came with a dead 318 and a 904 with the 8.25 rearend. I was given a 360/727 out of a van. Once I got the oilpan figured out on that one I needed a drivehaft....Off to the junkyard I go in search of a 66-67 B-body...There were several there all in a row(Those were the days  ::))  I got one out of a 66 or 67 coronet or satellite-I don't remember which- worked like a charm.

Just make sure the donor car is a 66/67 B-Body with a 727 and an 8 3/4 rearend and it will work with your 71/72 727 with an 8 1/4  :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:

I swapped to an 8.75 in my '71. It's originally a 383/727, 8.25 rear car. I put an 8.75 out of a '72 Charger in it without swapping driveshafts. It's worked fine for about 15 years now.
