The latest GM rumor I heard today...

...is that they are going to kill Pontiac and Saturn.  Saturn should never have been started in the first place but I think I'd send Buick to Oldsmobile toilet before I'd flush Pontiac.  Anybody else hear anything like this?
BTW, this came from the same source that told me the Big Three were pulling out of NASCAR so I don't put too much stock into this one either.

Mike DC

Whether your source is real or not, something like this is probably in the offing either way.

I think GM's lineup should start with cheapest Chevy, then go to Pontiac, and then Caddilac at the top.  Cut all the rest (except maybe GMC truck). GM basically needs the 3 brands to keep some semblance of their identity and product line spread, and these are the only three that anyone still isn't too embarrassed to be seen driving today.  It's that simple.

The Buick situation is getting ridiculous.  I don't know who's been sucking whose c**k to keep Buick alive in the last decade or so, but it already should have been killed first several years ago.  Oldsmobile was clearly still more of a keeper than Buick at the time they axed it.

I would love to own a Saturn Red Sky.  As for buick.  I think Buick is like Lexus over seas.  They do very well over seas.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

moparstuart

so re badge the over sea's car as buicks and axe then here    :yesnod:
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

A local long time Pontiac Dealer (Cadillac/Pontiac/Nissan) removed their Pontiac signs a couple of months ago.......and there's none on the lot. :scratchchin:

Could that be as simple as just losing that franchise though?

Believe it or not but Buick is HUGELY popular over in China and that is where the majority of those cars go.

Ya think they'll take Buick in exchange for relieving some of the debt we owe them??

Olds has been gone. They have needed to weed out their line up for yrs, IMO. Get rid of Buick, Saturn, & Hummer, IMO. I thought Ponticrack was a $ maker?

Thats what I always thought too but if Buicks is the cats ass in China then who knows?  Like I said, I didn't see this in any news report or anything like that, it's just what "some guy" told me.

Not sure. There is no other Pontiac Dealer in town anymore. They do own another dealership in a nearby small towm, they still sell them there though.

Are they made in China?  :eek2:

Yes.

Since 1999, a Chinese version of the Buick Century/Regal has been produced and sold in China under Shanghai GM...from wikipedia.

You hit on something I have been questioning since all this has happened. What is the POINT of having Chevy AND GMC trucks, THEN having another one badged as a Caddy???

Ghoste

I agree completely, that is how they killed Oldsmobile and Plymouth.

BigBlackDodge

I heard more info on NPR today coming home. Pontiac, Saturn and Saab may be up for sale soon. They also mentioned that when Olds was dropped by GM they lost about a billion dollars due to dealership law suits. :o

I still don't get the Pontiac one.  Oh well.

NBC news tonight said that GM said they are going to sell Saturn and Saab, but nothing about Pontiac.

i don't know why they need so many brands. i think those companies were taken over by the marketing dept .

Australian manufacturers have their primary brand and ONE high-performance brand. they seem to do alright selling small cars and SUV's next to each other.  :scratchchin:

WingCharger

GM:
PLEASE SELL SATURN!!

They killed that little car brand. They used to make little fuel efficient four bangers you couldnt kill if you wanted too. Now they make SUVs. :brickwall:

Mike DC

I think a lot of Saturn models are heavily rooted in Opels.

BlueSS454

The Hummers should be the first to go.  They are about the most impractical things made.....EVER.  THey should have kept Oldsmobile around and dumped Pontiac...I've never been a huge Pontiac fan.  I myself like Buicks, I think they are pretty nice cars compared to Pontiacs....BUT, what they should probably do is dump Buick and make the Cadillacs more affordable.  We also don't need Cadillac trucks, that's just a waste of time.  Believe it or not, the GMC trucks are better built than their Chevy counter parts.  If I had to do it over again, I'd take a GMC over the Chevy.
The other thing as far as the GM trucks go....just for laughs, I went and looked at a 2009 GMC 2500HD diesel 4x4 and about fell to the ground when I saw the MSRP at $49,500.  I don't see $50K anywhere in that truck.  There is no reason a pickup truck should cost that much regardless of who makes it.

As for Saturn....from what I have seen, they are a bunch of recall junks...dump them.

Ghoste

I thought the GMC and Chevy trucks came off the same lines just with a little different badging?

A friend of mine made a good point...no matter how much leather, chrome or carbon fiber is added to a car, after about $35K it is all just profit.

With that being said: I saw this ad today....a new 2008 Mustang GT for about $10K under MSRP or $18,995 with 40 at this price.

I guess when the Ford CEO was in Washington last week he wasn't kidding when he said:
"We produced more vehicles than our customers wanted and then slashed prices, hurting the residual values of those vehicles and hurting our customers." Dam, if you bought a 2007-8 GT you just lost about $10K off the resale value.

Wish Chrysler would cut $10K off the Challenger, I'd buy one.  :smilielol:
