Pics of Restored Exhaust Manifolds

I just wanted to share some pics of my exhaust manifolds that I just had coated at Airborn Coatings in East Hartford Connecticut.  They did a beautiful job and I was very happy with their quick turnaround time.  Before I brought them over, I beadblasted a small spot on one of my manifolds and I must say their coating comes real close to matching the look of cast iron.  If anyone is wondering they charged me $220 + tax.  Hopefully, they will hold up well.

 Hee, Hee, Hee, Good luck. I had mine did and looked brown after say 2,000 miles. When I got them back I told Rich "I never knew they should be that color".

They where blasted and East Wood paint used.

I think brown is the color they should be anyway.

Cudaken......hopefully they'll hold out longer than 2000 miles.   I guess I'll find out.   I've talked to alot of people about manifolds before I decided to coat mine.   Some had great results with paint (Eastwood/Hirsch/other brands) and others had great results with coatings (Airborne, Jet Hot, HPC etc).   Others had poor results results after time with both paint and coatings.    One thing I will be doing is breaking in my motor before it goes into the car.   I learned the hard way by cooking the coating on a $500 set of Hooker headers in the past.   My motor will be broken in first with a spare set of manifolds I have.   After the motor gets broken in, I will then paint the motor and then install my coated manifolds.   Hopefully this will help out.   Motor break-ins wreak havoc on coated headers/manifolds.   Now come on Cudaken.....you must admit brown rusty manifolds do not look very purty in a nice shiny engine compartment.

I vote against Jet Coating, I had two sets done at one time, put one set on and within 5mo it
was starting to rust. Took both sets back and had him redo them. Put the same pair on that I
took off and within 6mo they were rusting again. Maybe it works well on headers but I have had
no luck with it on manifolds. I am now using Eastwood Manifold Paint and have been real happy.

 TripleX9, yep they do look pretty and hope you have better luck than I did.

Guess if something can go wrong, it will in my Charger Bay.

The color looks really good!  My Jet-Hot coated ones are a little light

I had mine Jet Hot coated and after 3 years 2 months some rust started to poke through
Jet_Hot was nice enough to grandfather me into their 3 year free recoat warranty.   I give them props for that.

One question, does this place coat the insode of the manifold as well like Jet Hot does?

Chris.........they can do the inside if you want them done.  I didn't specifically ask them to do the inside but it looks like they coated in there.  Here's the link for Airborne:  www.airborncoatings.com    I'm keeping my fingers crossed on these things holding up.  Like I said, I've received mixed feedback on the best way to do exhaust manifolds.  Some people I talked to swore by paint and others by coatings.  I decided to go with a coating because it was just one less thing to do on my restoration and Airborne is about 7 minutes away from work.  I also saw a set that my buddy had done by Airborne and I was impressed by the color match.  I'll be the first one to tell you guys if they do start rusting on me.   If that happens, I guess I'll just tell everyone that's the way these things are supposed to look

I decided to paint mine first with the Eastwoods product and after a while, if I don't like it, I can then remove them and spend the $$$ to get them coated.

I think yours look great, my goal also for a nice & tidy engine bay! ?
