Is the orange box for points systems and the black box for electronic ignition? They look identical, even same number of pins. I want to know if you can use either ECU for both applications.

Thanks in advance.

both are electronic, just that orange is the first step up in performance over the black one... then comes chromed and then Gold what is only for race purpouse.

Points doesn't use ignition modules, simply points and condenser inside distributor to trigger up directly the coil to produce the spark.

what modules make is translate a magnetic pulse made inside dist between reluctor and pick up coil to then trigger up the coil... not physic contact anywhere

Thanks nacho  . my 69 C500 has the orange box 4120505 in it, but it has a points system.

maybe somebody changed back to points distributor. You can change from electronic to points without need any modification, just conecting the distributor wire directly to - lead of coil and removing the one coming from ignition.Rest will remains the same BUT being not used.

you should have a rubber plug with two wires hanging around then, the one what should go to electronic distributor. also maybe a black wire with eyelet terminal, the one what should go to - lead of coil. Unless thsi wire is still on coil and distributor wires were cut
