Removing glass from side mirror on 71

Hi guys,

can anyone tell me if there's an easy way to remove the glass from the side mirrors on a 71 Charger ?

I want to get the housings rechromed, but can't figure out how to get the glass out. Looks like there's a couple of screws in there......what's the go ?

I don't know of a non-destructive way to get it out, but would be interested if there is one.

The plate where the glass is glued provides couple of holes top get an straight acces to screws and remove the pivot system of glass from mirror cup. So to make it the best way, yes is true remove the glass itself will be the best... but if you find the way to remove the glass without break it, let me know please I'm on same deal trying to save the glass.

I have been able to remove the pivot system on one mirror using an angled ( 90º ) screwdriver, but on the other mirror the screws are STUCK, and the angled screwdriver doesn't provide the strength to aply straight the torque over screws without damage them :s

I used a 90° screw driver to get mine after SOAKING them in WD-40. that is the ONLY wany

i used flat head screw driver with a heat gun and patience.... now that i rethink it i could have used wd-40 or some other penetrating oil

Why on earth would they have made it so damned hard to get the mirror out? What happens if you break the glass ? New mirror ?

I'll give it a go fella's.

because the only supose stuff you really would need to repair/replace on those years was the glass itself... never thought on resto, and even on that way, screws aren't enough stuck with rust and dust... not enough years to that

What happens if you break the glass ? New mirror ?

yeah, new glass they are actually availabe and being sold on ebay laser cut.
