And the Canadian car now resides close to Talladega right?

This car was restored by Restorations by Julius about 5 years ago. I think it has changed hands at least 3-4 times since then. That is the first photo I have seen of the fender tag that you can actually make out the SON.

Moparmatty

There were two Hemi 500's here in Ontario.  One white with red interior and 4spd.  the other was white with blue or black interior, not sure on the trans.

If the white with red interior Hemi 500 was restored by Julius it was after it left here.

Wasn't there only one column shifter Daytona? I remember reading that somewhere...a green one I think? :shruggy:

Hey, could somebody decode the tag if they have a better picture? I would do it myself, but the picture is too hard to see. I really like this car, and would like to know...
I can tell it has power front disc brakes due to the lines coming out away from the engine, and the booster, but nothing else.

69_500

I'm pretty sure that there are more than one AT on the column Daytona's, because of the 5 that my dad owned 1 was an AT on the column. And it was R4 red

I was just looking at the very first photo in this thread and noticed that the angle, color, and lighting all seem to combine to show off the "fast top" to great effect.  Irrelevant to the rest of the thread but its a great photo from point of view.  :Twocents:

I spy no corner bend on the tag....

Maybe it was a misprint on the code to represent the Radio Delete... :scratchchin:

69_500

I think its a misprint of the V88 Gene. Somewhere around here I have another picture of the fender tag, and on that one it was sprayed with way too much paint to make out the SON but the rest of the tag was pretty readable. Well it took a little work with the colors and contrast but I was able to read everything but the SON on the other picture.

there are a PILE of shift on the column Daytonas, too.  John Borzych has a pair, the silver car that's currently painted black is one, etc.

WingCharger

Okay, that sorts it out....
I am a sucker for column shifted manual cars. I drove a column shifted 1960s Ford truck a while back, and I liked it. Too bad a column shifted manual wasnt available with the HEMI or 440...That would be a pure sleeper! Man, I wish....

The factory crew really messed things up on the build sheet. This is from a previous ebay auction.
Has XS code yet at the bottom says charger 500.

Paul Kaufmann, 45, of Bernardsville, New Jersey, at one point owned a B5 blue Daytona with a column shift automatic, but at the age of 22, decided that he must have an R4 red four-speed Daytona with a black stripe. "I just didn't realize it would take over 16 years to find (it)," he said.

I haven't narrowed it down yet as to when they started putting XX on the broadcast sheets but I'm certain it was after this car was built. Seems to be all of the cars built before November 20th had XS on the broadcast sheet, where as there are cars on November 20th that have XS and some with XX. Can't say for certain but it looks like that is the day they finally started to do it as XX. Which wouldn't be out of line considering they were still stamping the fender tags XS until November 14th.

hemigeno

Danny,

If you have enough Broadcast Sheets to get a good reading on things, try checking out the Sequence Number in the top left-hand corner.  I'll wager that the "XS" cars had lower Sequence Numbers than the "XX" cars go...  The SPD doesn't necessarily indicate the exact date the cars were built, or what order they went down the assembly line.  It's a good ballpark, but the whole thing is not an exact science.  I'd be interested in what you find out in that regard...

:scratchchin:

69_500

Well I think that I have a total of 35 broadcast sheets for 500's. Not a ton of them to compare when we get to talking about those particular dates though. probably 2-3 on November 14th, 2 on November 20th, and I think 1 for November 28th. But as far as fender tags go there is a bunch of them on those dates to compare.

Daytona and 500 Registrations from  1976 wing warrior newsletter. It reads how many of you daytona and chargers 500 owners have the problem of possesing a registration slip showing maybe XS on the paperwork instead of XX.Well if you want to correct this error. Then heres what Mike Mcguire says you have to go through to straighten the matter out.As he had the same problem with his daytona. You write to James H Kilroy chrysler corporation office of civic affairs P.O. Box 1919 Detroit Michigan 48231.Include a copy of the title and picture of the car.And if possible a picture of the serial number on the dash.Or from the engine compartment plate. We recommend you use the dash.As we have seen a case where they even put XS on the engine compartment plate instead of XX as was on the dash.Mr Klilroy will inturn respond with a letter to your state DMV notorized stating he correct serial number. And they will in turn change the registration. Most of these problems were caused by an erroneous statement on the the factory title of origin. And in this case the mistake was made on Mikes Daytona.

Troy hemi68charger says on this post his car has XX dash but XS on the title

And 69 Charger 500 was asking if even a XS 500 existed

I know of a third, black with red interior and stripe, low mileage, shown at the mopar nats tent a few years ago.
I used to own a mopar because it was different, but now I know better.

69_500

I believe that there was only 1 HEMI 500 sold new in Canada though, and it was also a white car, now owned by Tim W if I'm not mistaken.

Two different cars there Dave. The car with 181 miles was the vin you listed, but the Speedy Greco car was X9 with red interior. However 248663 is a X9 with black interior, and was an AT on the column car.

Yes the 181 mile car was the one from Tomball TX. And Speedy's car was from NY I believe. I think that Speedy's car was a 4 speed car as well wasn't it?

I lived in Houston Tx for sometime not far from Tomball TX remember some area aero cars. There was a guy with a R6 AC 69 Charger 500 I have its vin.It was found in Missouri City Texas Randy Purifoy.Another guy I know that had 2 wingcars that worked in Tomball Tx .Where I got one of those cars the RM23UOA166242 Superbird.Has a 440 daytona with a 426 hemi in it and recorded its vin .And said the motor was 69 vintage and came out of a black wrecked 69 charger 426 500.But I didnt get the vin off the motor. But 68 Hemi charger Troy also knows this guy and might be able to get the motors vin .As this might be possibly the third missing X9 Hemi 500??.Or a accounted for 500
