(Driving in rain) Sorry guys, I drove my General Lee in the rain on purpose---

We got some rain here for a change and I couldn't resist.     I had to go and play with it a little.    I swore I would NEVER drive it in the rain but man I had some fun sliding it around.    My wife said, " It's raining "  and I said I know  and then I bolted      I know some may think how could you do that but honestly, how could I not...... My wipers work good too.    Do any of you guys do the same ?

i have been driving my general lee  everyday for 21 years - you should try doing a 180 on dry pavement - but make sure you are going a little fast -i have had so much fun over the years - you should drive yours  more - you only live once and you cant  drive it to heaven    rene   . las cruces  new mexico

I was sliding mine around on the dry pavement last time I took it out  .  Last time I drove it in the rain, the wipers didn't work, and the passenger side floor got soaked

Could this be a GL thing?  It just never even occurred to me to take the Charger out in the rain and slide it around.

i slid mine around last april and been fixing it ever since.

Chuck, did your windshield leak at all.  If it did it's because the aftermarket one's thickness is incorrect.  Mine rains on the inside as well if it gets wet, so no rain for me.

Ha, mine leaks like a sieve as well for this reason....the PPG's are too thin for the repro gaskets.   Next time around Ill shop for one of the Plinktons which are reportedly thicker.

I get caught in the rain almost every July at Carlisle ..notice the tarp?(when I bring the '69 anyway....brought the '08 last year & had perfect weather).
I honestly cant say I "purposely" went out & drove in the rain....too much of a PITA to clean when you can have the same fun in the dry

No, my windshield is the original one so no leaks.   I know what you mean about cleaning it.  Now it's got black road grime all over.    I figured once wont kill it so what the hell.  I used to have so much fun on the dirt roads back home but the last 2 years I've been stuck to pavement.    I have done 180's forwards and backwards on dirt, ice and the dry blacktop but not in the Charger (it wasn't done) so I just had to play.  I figure it's the best way to start getting the feel of the car.      I'm sure my wife will chime in on how I used to make her scream and grab the dash  anytime I would slide a corner in the truck or car.    Man, you would think I was killing her.    It's funny that I put new wiper blades on it this summer just in case I got caught in rain.    One thing I did notice is I new I had the three speed wiper, but the first click up is only slow.    I thought it would be intermittent.    I guess it makes sense Low-Med-Hi.  As for Ghoste. It's not a GL thing.  This is just a thing I've done since I've been driving.  I guess I'm not grown up just yet.  I'm only 39

Oh no, God no.  My baby will not be out in the rain.  There was the time I had a large 5x12 thin rubber sheet under it on top of the cement floor in the garage.  I went out one day to take a look underneath and it was like a thunder storm under there.   I was shocked, water dripping of the frame rails, wet floors, WHAT!!   I pulled the rubber mat out and chucked it and it's been dry since.  I think it's great you took your car out in the rain, as long as it's your car.    If I got caught in the rain?  O well.   I love the post before mine of guys talking about how they use their cars all the time.  I do lots of short errands and cruises.  " Can't drive it to Heaven " Amen.

C'mon people, most likely these cars had former owners that exposed them to snow, mud & rain and abused them worse in one Friday night then anyone on here will abuse their car during the entire time that they will own the car.

It's a muscle car.....add gas and use as God intended.  

P.S. I wouldn't drive mine in the rain either.

That's kind of my point.  My car has all it's original sheet metal.    My car is very solid,   but how many years has it been in the rain ?  I'll never know.   And how many years does it have left before I have to do patches ?    Soooo, I probably should keep it in on rainy days in order to make it last as long as possible.     My car is nothing special but if I can get 9 more years and still have all the original metal that would be cool.    I will then have a 50 year old Charger with all it's original metal which will be rare I think.         Unless I wreck it.

Well, I've had my present '68 in the rain a few times over the years.  Usually coming from or going to a car show.  I just don't like cleaning all the road grime off of everything after a wet ride.  In 1968 I was not so anal about keeping it clean.  It was just another car back then.  Maybe I should start a thread for us old original owners to tell some real 'back in the day' stories.  Bob

Funny, these cars were daily drivers for a long time before we started worshiping them.

I won't purposely take either car out in the rain but living in the NW there's a pretty good chance you'll get caught in the rain.  I always said it wouldn't matter if I got caught with the Charger, but the Challenger is strictly a local nice day driver.  That all changed this year up in Tacoma when I took the Chally up there.  At award time it started raining and didn't stop until the next day after we drove 150 miles in sometimes monsoon conditions.  So much for bare metal finishes.
