Got few gremlins that im still chasing down, but im wonder about

1 - why my car is completely dead when key is off?

2- does constant power go the the door switches to power dome light etc with key off?

3- and most important,  why does my power go off when i shift the key from on to start?

Any help would be awesome!

1) Need more info. What items don't operate with the key off.

2) Yes, sort of. There is constant power to the dome light but the door switches are only grounds.

3) The accessory power is interrupted during start to devote full power to the starter. If you mean all of the power dies and the starter doesn't engage, look for a loose/dirty connection.

:iagree:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Basically, unless i have the key to the on position, nothing will turn on or work.

The car is a 1969 charger 318 with the light package and so forth.

I also just put in a new starter relay to help fix number three,  i know understand why I was losing power when i switched to start position.  Now being able to start the car without having to jump the starter relay.

Im guessing thier is a constant 12v going into the fusebox in order to supply power for the door switches to power the dome/console lights when i open the door??? where is that 12 v constant coming from and i have found a 12v constant wire but would just like to verify its the right wire.

thanks again guys

The dome light is fed by the Dome, Stop & Emer Flasher fuse in the fuse box, it is constantly powered. A pink wire leaves the fuse and goes to the domelight/console lights, a yellow wire leaves the dome light and is grounded by either of the door switches or the dash light dimmer switch.

You say nothing works without the key in the ON position, does that include the headlights, brake lights, emergency flashers, lighter? They all should have power without the key.

that sounds about right, i just need to spend the time to make it happen that way.  also the dash/guage lights, do they only come on when the lights switch is turned on or are they always on when the car is on?

the ignition thing i have fixed and now it cranks with my key, but i noticed that the voltage drops to the coil wire when i crank the engine are you suppose to get 12v at the coil when  trying to start the car?

thanks everyone, hopefully ill be starting the car this weekend after 6 months of work to it.    Ill have to post some pics and show everyone the progress i have made so far,  ETA to be back on the road is the 2 nd weekend in may!

The instrument lights are powered by the headlight switch so they only work when it's on.

The Mopar switch has two ignition circuits, IGN1 and IGN2. IGN1 is powered when the switch is in the Run position but shuts off in Start. The IGN2 circuit is powered only when the switch is in the Start position; IGN2 bypasses the ballast resistor to provide full battery voltage to the coil during startup. The coil should get battery voltage in Start but the voltage should drop off in Run.
