G3 Mac help

Well I got a G3 mac for free yesterday. Seems to be a nice machine.  In getting it setup I have a few problems.    Main problem is it keeps asking for the keychain password or phrase everytime I do any setting change.  My buddy that gave me the computer says he setup  admin  as my name and no password.  Entering enter in the keychain phrase does nothing.

Theres icons in the utilities directory  that I assume are programs to run  but when I click on them   the icon will move down to the bottom bar of the desktop and bounce for 20 seconds and then dissappear. I never do see a program run?!  Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

I have very little experience with Macs so this is all new to me.

Sounds like you are not set up as the administrator for the OS. Have your buddy clarify what he did. The next simpliest answer is to go to the apple website and enter the "support" site for the OS. http://www.apple.com/support/osfamily/. The third best is to get an answer here from a Mac expert (I'm just an amateur trying to go pro.  :P). The fourth best option is to go to the "Genius Bar" at the Apple Store in Leawood (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=from%3A+Hutchinson%2C+Kansas+to%3A+4529+West+119th+Street%2C+Suite+%23283+%2C+Leawood%2C+KS+66209) and have them figure it out. Only a 3 plus hour trip but if you are in the area...but call first.   :icon_smile_wink:  Good luck

I got it all going.  Seems my buddy still had a master  password that was in the keychain file. Once he told me what it was all is well. I am waiting on a OS X cd to arrive and will nuke the system and start fresh. Should have a gig of ram for it in a week.

Nice machine.
