It documents the F6 green car with a black stripe. And at that time the mileage 17171.5 .And that the dealer in long Beach Ca painted it silver and added mags to it.It also collaberates this car is #148 on the daytona shiplist and the dealer shows as Vern Holmes in N long Beach Ca

I bought that issue when it came out. I remember freaking out because up to that point, I hadn't seen an actual Daytona featured in such great color pictures before.

Beep Beep Dave

Hey Dave,
That first scan is the one I sent you years ago. I use to carry around with me at school when I was 10 or 11 talking about my dream car. I like the part in the article where it says 220 mph top speed. Its says it in a magazine so it must be true eh :yesnod: That went a long way in impressing my friends.

I remember when Jim had at least two original Hemi Daytonas. He is a funny guy and wears that hat all the time.

Same here in England! I framed the colour page and still have it.

Daytona Guy

That rear view wing pic of the Orange County Daytona was one of my all time favorite pictures. I try to take the same shot of mine almost every time I take pictures. Of course I do not have the right lens.

This was our second attempt and building our own Daytona back in 81. I think you all know where we got the paint scheme.

The old Radke (409076) blue and red Daytona is on display at MCACN this weekend.   The car is now back to F6 green as born at the factory.

That's dissapointing. But I will still check it out today

69DAYTONASE

That magazine article is the one that finally gave me " Daytona Fever" I still have the magazine that I bought(actually for the Chevy engine build article) but when I saw the Daytona, that was it! Darn near wore the pages out looking at it. I have since picked up a couple more copies.  :drool5: The paint job is just too cool, be neat to replicate it.  :2thumbs:
Yeah, it'd be something to see it in those colors today, the "Hot Rod magazine" Daytona. :2thumbs:
I can remember putting rocks in a coffee can and shaking it to see what a hemi sounded like idling...

It is back to the factory color of F6 Green as of now. At least it was at around 9 pm last night when I was looking at it.

Yeah......the original color is fine given the rarity BUT: with it's fame being tied to the Hot Rod magazine article & the muffler ad-back to that paint scheme seems the way to go, after all, would anyone change the "Big Willy" Daytona back to factory paint?
Plus that Petty blue & STP red paint scheme.....let's face it-the whole car.....is just "right" that way, wheels, tires, etc. :2thumbs:

I've say it before....The Radke Daytona was something special with its blue custom paint job.  Even those not into the wingcars back then recognized it from its appearances in magazines.  Today it's just another beautifully restored Daytona...but with no personality I hate to see the old custom paint jobs disappear as we lose a bit of wingcar history when they are gone......

They did a nice job on the car.   Very sympathetic restoration.    The under hood paint is still the original F6 applied by the factory.    The painter said he spent a lot of time with oven cleaner carefully removing the black paint applied in the 70's.

Former owner of the Radke Daytona, Pete Haldiman was at the show from Colorado.   Pete bought the car from Jim Radke in the late 70's and owned it until it was sold in Colorado in 1997.      Pete was introduced to the current owner.   Also, when Pete bought the Daytona, he sold the  Hemi C500 with the black vinyl top to Danny Liebrandt's dad.    Danny got reintroduced to Pete on Saturday.   Pretty cool.

That does look killer but it is now just another F6 Daytona....
