The thing I've noticed about rwd in the snow is they don't go into the ditch as much.  I figure there are two reasons for it.  First people who drive rwd vehicles like pickups and old cars seem to have more sense and SLOW DOWN.  The other is that I think rwd actually turns better in slippery conditions (at slower speeds).  When a fwd vehicle loses traction on the front it skids.  You can't do much about it except ride it out.  A rwd however will turn no matter what.  Stomp on the gas and the back will shoot out and you turn the corner.  I've found the gas pedal is much better in the snow than the brake.   :Twocents:
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

I think a lot of it probably depends on what you learned to drive with.  There are many who argue that once the vehicle gets moving, the fwd will lose it's traction advantage as weight is lifted from the front.
I prefer rwd, but it's what I've driven most commonly.  My wife once had an 87 Camaro that only needed the lightest dusting of snow on the ground to leave us stuck.  I've also owned (as have most of us now) a large number of fwd cars and I can't honestly say that one or the other showed a vast superiority under all conditions.

I'm not a fan of the new pretender, however I can't speak for butt#@*& USA but I see them on the road all the time. Too often in fact. I also see hundreds of them heading south every day on car haulers.

I'm afraid they are selling better than I expected.

I was in Toronto for four days last week Don with a half day side trip down into Hamilton and I didn't see a single one.  Not even on the 401 behind a transport.

Afraid?  You do realize that if this car DIDN'T sell (even with the 4 doors, which sell more than 2), then DCX would most likely decide that a V-8 RWD Dodge would not be a profitable venture, and can the program altogether?  So, you could kiss goodbye any chance of seeing the car that you all have been screaming for, for quite a few more years.  And, again, if Dodge didn't sell cars, and it went under, we'd all be stuck driving Toyotas.  People need to look at the bigger picture, instead of a narrow tunnel focused only on 7 letters.

Not much of an import fan.  I don't want DCX to fail but I won't be getting so excited I wet my pants just because they choose to call this thing a Charger.  It's a European touring sedan at best and an unattractive family car at it's most common iteration.  I don't care for "Beemers" either.

Tell me again how a NAME makes a car a turd?  And, I wonder just how many people would be willing to only have Japanese cars as an option for a new car......

Stuck? I drive Toyotas because I like the cars and I've hardly ever had any reliability issues with them (I currently have two - my daily and my 4x4). Of course, if I had to choose a Camry or a Charger based on looks I'd walk so I'm selective in that respect - I generally won't drive anything that I wouldn't be seen in. Chrysler is a German company so what's the difference between driving one of those or driving a Japanese car? Most of my purchases fall into the bang-for-the-buck category and, sadly, DCX doesn't seem to have much to offer for me in that respect. My roommate's parents (diehard Mopar people) just picked up a new Charger R/T Hemi and the coolest thing on it is the DVD player for the rear seat. They wanted a 300 but there weren't any on the lot with the options they wanted and the Charger was a dealer demo with a big discount. He said if he were to do it again he would have skipped the Hemi because it's overkill for what they need - a daily driver that they can also use on long-haul trips (they are retired). I took some pictures but seeing that thing sit next to their 69 SuperBee just makes it look even less appealing. DCX may sell a bunch of them but there won't be one in my driveway until it looks better. Heck, I'm trying to find an older Ram because I can't stand the new ones either so it's more than just the Charger. To be honest, I'm not sure if they even make a car, truck, or SUV that I like at this point.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I agree Troy, Ive been driving Toyotas for the last 15 years and they are pretty much all i will own for an everyday work car. Plus I like the fact thay so many of them are built here now. i just sold my 94 Camry with 225k on it for $2k. and upgraded to a 97 with only 160k on the clock.

I hate the looks of the new "Charger". However because of what I assume must be lack of sales, Ive seen some nice deals on them. So I might just end up with one. Then again maybe Ill get the Magnum, its cheaper yet  :).

As far as front wheel drive in the snow, Id take it over rear wheel anyday.

Putting the weight over the traction, just makes sense. If you wander around in the winter and check out the trucks in New York, you will find alot of them have the beds filled with anything heavy for the winter months. My folks truck has a few hundred pounds of sand in it for the winter. Ive drove it with and without, and let me tell ya, it doesnt go anywhere without the extra weight.  Thats a standard feature in FWD cars.

Another thing is FWD seems to drive as more "together" in the snow. The front wheels accerate it and stop it in a fluid sort of way. Vs the push, pull of RWD.

Plus if you remember you have a gas pedal you can help avoid the evil slam into the snow bank on that corner you dont remember as being so sharp. Turn the wheel and hammer the gas.

You get the same sort of results with RWD, but end up in a see saw motion that normally finds you across the road in the other snow bank.  ::)

My 2 cents

I was looking at a Subaru outback before getting my 05 Ram 4x4. The imports have some pluses and with more componets built, like my hemi, in mexico buying American is not as easy as getting a Mopar..or the other two.
I have seen 3 new chargers on the road and the local dealer seems to move them quick. I have noticed they seem to be RT's only that they keep on the lot. I understand they make more off the loaded RT's and a 4000+ car needs a hemi to get out of its own way anyways

You guys need to take 1 step back and look at this. Its just a late model car with a name you like, thats all this car has in common with the old Chargers. None of thses cars impress me as a real muscle car. Those days are long gone. Now if they REPRODUCED the old body styles and threw in some late model technology on the motor and drivetrain,,there you mght have something. This things just another late model bubble body like the rest of em.

Ghoste

I think we all realize that.  Much of the problem began waaay back when the first images of the thing were being "leaked" to the press.  When the enthusiasts went nuts, DCX's reaction was to explain how we were all dinosaurs who didn't get it and that we were stuck in the past.  They made it crystal clear that the car was not in any way shape or form supposed to resemble the old ones because we were an insignificant market and they were not trying to reach us.  Then, surprise!  The entire marketing campaign is based around linking the car to the old Chargers and telling the world the musclecar is back.
