Found some more info on it.


"The remains of a 1968 Camaro sits sideways in Poplar street just west of Parkview Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses said the driver of the Camaro appeared to have lost control just before it slid into the path of an oncoming westbound vehicle."

— Three people were taken to the hospital after a two-car accident Thursday afternoon.
A 16-year-old male was heading east on Poplar Street around 3:30 p.m. when, while trying to accelerate, he lost control of a 1968 Camaro and spun into the westbound lane, according to Terre Haute police.
His vehicle was hit on the passenger's side by a Toyota Camry driven by a female with a male passenger, according to police.
The pair were taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with minor injuries while the 16-year-old was taken to Union Hospital before being transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Both airbags in the Camry deployed. Police were unsure if the 16-year-old was wearing a seat belt.
No further details were available at presstime.

That's hard to take. My first car was a 68 Camaro. It had a strait 6 and a 3 speed stick and I had no problems getting sideways with it. :rotz:

Depends on the kid.  It really does. 

I had my first charger when I was 16 and I didn't kill it.  At the time everyone told my parents that the car wouldn't live three months in my hands.

My first car was my 70 440 charger Rt and i still have it today i was 16 when i bought it and it wasnt cheap $6,500 aus dollars back in 1982.Mum and dad had no problems with me having such a car dad said its big and strong and you wont stuff it because you paid for it yourself.The only problem was when i was waiting to get my drivers license dad wouldnt leave my charger alone he was always driving it.I had many other friends, whos parents bought them new cars and they trashed them in no time.

I agree with Mike DC...it all depends on the person. I see kids doing powerslides and stuff with their tuners..and the cars are covered in dents. I'm looking at $15,000 for body and paint alone on my Charger, there is no way I'm gonna attempt to do bullsh*t things like that just to show off to other people.

For example, last week in the school parking lot (its gravel). A kid in his pickup attempted to do a powerslide. He lost control, drove up and over the concrete meridan seperating the parking lot sides and drove onto the front of some other kids car.

I tell ya, there are things I did at 16...17...18...that could have easily turned into that same sort of scene. Luckily, I didn't really start getting some decent power under my right foot until I was almost 18, but I still had quite a few self imposed 'physics lessons' during that time. :lol: Glad none of them were in the form of a crash.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Yeah, I have thought about it but it needs a frame rail and a torsion bar crossmember. Theres no way I can do it...let alone attempt it.

Man, 15k at 16 years old is a TON of money. Ever thought of selling the charger and putting the money into the Duster you just picked up? You could make yourself an awesome daily driver. Drop big money like that when your out of college and making some real money. Just a thought. I'm 18 and I'm pretty sure later on that you'll wish had something to have fun with while your in high school rather than spending all your time saving money.

I won't tell you to sell it. 

But I'll suggest that you maybe pay a real shop to replace the structural subframes and the maybe do an amateur job on the outer skin yourself.  They're right, $15K is a ton of money at your age.  It's not just the difficulty of getting it, it's all the other things you could be doing with it once you had it.
