Anyone else stocking up on ammo or firearms?

I hear a local gun store sold 74 AR 15's in two days and when I went to a different shop it was packed and the three people I passed on the way in had bought guns..two of them shotguns. No $$$ for an AR 15 but I did get some ammo and will pick up a Ruger 10/22 Monday. Lets keep this gun related please.

I went to get 9mm rounds at Wal Mart and was told that they have been selling like crazy. I stocked up.
I also bought another cheap 9mm.
Next week I will have to pick up another shotgun or pistol.
Looks like everone is stocking up. :scratchchin:
I am hearing rumors of the gun laws changing.
:scratchchin:
Then a guy tells me that Wal Mart is going to stop selling firearms and ammo starting Jan 1st. :shruggy:

One guy at work said something about a 500% sales tax on ammo!  I got my ammo at Wall-Mart also but the guy didn't mention the Jan 1 thing but said it had been busy.

I've been buying some ammo here and there. I was going to get some 9mm ammo in Wallyworld last night, but they were sold out.

One thing I did do that I had been meaning to do for a while was apply for a Pennsylvania CCW permit. I have a New York State CCW and found out that PA will give NYS CCW holders a PA CCW. It took about a week and cost me $26. It was all done through the mail. PA has reporicity agreements with a bunch of states that will honor PA's CCW permit.

Finn

The only ARs you can buy in CA are those retarded "CA-legal" ones. :flame:
Plus the Walmarts here haven't sold firearms for years now and their ammo supply is pretty much extinct.
Ive been trying to convince my out of state grandma to stock up on assault rifles but she thinks it'd be overkill for her muskrat problem  ::).

I am fine with my .12 Gauge, my .20 Gauge,  my .243 Rifle, my .50 Muzzleloader, and my .22 for varmint. My dad has a .22 Pistol for down cattle. I see no real need (at least from my needs) for a automatic anything.

The only other "big" gun I really like and dream of owning is a Berretta M82 .50 Sniper Rifle. It would be cool to just say you had one. :nana: :D

question from someone who has no use for a gun:

Why is everyone stocking up?

(I have no real issue with guns. I just have never had the need for one.)

Good question.
I guess due to the tax increase and with the economy being down I suppose crime is up? :shruggy: :scratchchin:

Oh yea, firearm and ammo sales always skyrocket when a you-know-what is about ready to take over the office of the President of the United States. I think they'll make enough money in the next 2 1/2 months to cover their potential losses over the next 8 years.

Everyone who bought ammo on Nov 3rd should've gotten a free T-shirt:

"I'm too stupid to understand the difference between election day & inauguration day.  And I have a loaded gun."

Yeah, but we both know that's not what got most of those people in line on Nov 1st-4th.

Obama already looked like a legitimate potential threat to McCain since at least this last summer.  There hasn't been a new ammo buying spree every time Obama went up in the polls for the last 6 months.  Most of those people rushed into the stores on the 3rd because they really wondered if ammo taxes would go up before Thanksgiving.

Huh? The average guy who buys ammo is not like a Wall Street cattle futures trader. I would imagine they were hopeful of a different outcome despite what the polls showed. Even the polls were way off compared to the actual election results.

Lowprofile

I just ordered [well, 2 wks ago] a AR-15 type Rifle [either a Colt or a S&W] from my local gun store. It will be in by thanksgiving. I also bought a Remington 700 Tactical w/scope from a friend of mine last month. My wife told me the ammo cabinet is chock full as of yesterday. 44 mag, 9mm, 300 Winchester, 7mm Remington, 00 Buckshot, 12 Gauge Tactical Buckshot/Slugs, and some 45.acp for my Para-Ordanance P-13 45.

I'm not a "gun nut" or anything, but I love to go shooting. We live on a small ranch in Northern Idaho, and that's Bear, Mountain Lion, and Wolf country. Ya gotta be Prepaired for anything when ya live out in the woods......the cops are a long ways away......... :yesnod: :icon_smile_wink:

I'll be buying and stocking up as soon as I get back to the mainland. I'm thinking of getting a M1 Garand and maybe a nice sub like an MP5 and a 12 gauge as well. And enough ammo to supply a small army.

I was only pointing out that it's been clear for months that McCain's victory was not a foregone conclusion.

I don't really see a difference whether the polls said 49% this or 51% that.  Even now, it's still no more than a minor possibility that anything will be done to ammo prices any time soon, and the anti-gun candidate already IS elected.

All that rush to stock up last week just made me laugh.

I think it's great that the taxes on ammo is about to skyrocket.  I figure they should charge about $30.00 for every bullet.

That way when people start shooting their guns at each other they'll take the time to aim properly and not waste any expensive bullets killing innocent bystanders.

Drache

In canada we need to register our firearms and have to have a license to buy ammo! That way the government knows what guns you have and what you buy ammo for!

IE If you are buying 9mm ammo and yet you only have a .308 the government knows....  :rotz:

Yeah, Democrats are about to take our guns away.

do you honestly think taxing the crap out of us LAW ABIDING gun owning citizens is a good solution to gun control? Wow. Absolutely incredible. I have a website for you to look at. http://www.assaultweaponwatch.com/
check it each day and see all the incredible killing going on with the assault weapon. You know the British taxed the crap out of us all once, we threw their crap into the harbor. Do you honestly think this will end differently?

I just ask you to think about that one, think about our history, the history of the United States, and then remember one thing, Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Do we want a repeat of that particular portion of our history? I'd rather not.

P.S. I can retrofit most 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen Chargers with roof-mounted turrets. I can do the 2.2L models, also, but, number one, that's not a real Charger, and two, due to weight restrictions, I can only equip it with an aluminum turret and M-60, as opposed to the steel and M2 .050 cal for the 1-2-3 Gens. Hole saw sold separately. Lemme know; they're going fast.

What pisses me off is the guns that Canada say are prohibited or restricted! I can buy a Remington 700 XCR Long Tactical (same rifle as the M700 used by military forces) yet other weapons like a Dragunov SVD is prohibited! A semi-auto only AR-15 (all full auto is prohibited in Canada) is restricted meaning I can ONLY own one if I have the PROPER license and I HAVE to be a long standing member of a gun club (if you move to a town that doesn't have a gun club you are supposed to sell them right away). Yet at the same time I can buy the civilian version of the H&K SL-8 which is not even restricted meaning I can even hunt with it (can only hunt with non-restricted and non-prohibited weapons). Handguns even have tougher laws (no CCW here either)!

The laws in Canada are fucked up! You can't ALTER a gun's length to make the entire gun under 26" yet you can BUY a factory made pistol grip pump shotgun with an overall length of 22" and that's ok! But if you ADD a folding stock to that shotgun, it is then classified as a prohibited weapon until you take the folding stock off!

That's pretty simple for sure.  But keep in mind that we have the Presidency, the Senate, the House and soon the Supreme Court.  The Police and Armed Forces will be at our beck and call. Just a suggestion but if I were you, I would tone it down a notch -- I mean, it's not really a fair fight; or is it?  Remember guys (funny how it always seems to be only guys), the times have changed and your side lost.  And it is so much more satisfying to use words as the ammo and the courts as the weapons to gently remind you who is in charge.  Now go hug your gun or guns, depending on how insecure you happen to be.  Soon you might be kissing them goodbye.  I know, I know, it will hurt for a while but we all will be stronger for it.  Kim

the reason our founding fathers wanted us to have guns is to protect us against the government - once that is gone - our country is gone - welcome dictator barrack or barry!

Ghoste

I wonder though, what the founding fathers would have thought over two hundred years ago had they foreseen drive-by gang bangers, road rage, grocery clerk hold ups, rape at gunpoint, car jacking, school yard massacres, snipers for fun, and so on and so on.
Just asking the question as I wrote it though.  Trust me, I'm not anti gun, the Canadian gun registry is a huge money grab and a complete waste of time in my opinion.

Orange_Crush

I've always been pro-second amendment.  When you consider the fact that the FF intended the population to be the "check and balance" for the government, it makes perfect sense.

I, however, refuse to live in fear.  The bulk of posts I've seen on this subject tell me that you guys live every day of your lives in abject terror.  Its like you're holed up in bunkers waiting for the apocalypse to come or the gang of roving hippies to break down your doors and smother you with daisies while they hammer your guns into plowshares.

Nope Orange, I just like to shoot clays and hit what I am aiming at. The are no military rations or a bathtub full of water at my house. Not everyone that's owns a couple firearms is an extremist. I got a feeling this thread is going to be locked soon. :'(

And I never said they were.  I do not own a firearm.  I know many people who do and would not qualify any of them as extremists.
As I said, my comments are directed at the "chicken littles" on the board.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Life is too short.

Never said I live in fear. I am a realist. I could care less if you want to be prepared to defend yourself. :Twocents: :pity:

What is the shelf life of a shot gun shell?  I have some 12 guage shells that are several years old and was wondering how long i can still use them?

My friend just fired off some shells that were from the 1970's.
I asked him the same thing, said the shelf life is years as long as they do not get damp.

Trust me, I'm not anti gun, the Canadian gun registry is a huge money grab and a complete waste of time in my opinion.

how many rapes have been commited by knife point? quite a few i'm sure. The point is that if you ban firearms, A. the black market will explode and it'll be worse than before because nobody can defend themselves, and the 10 cops per 1500 people in each town will be overwhelmed and can't protect everybody, or B. people will start throwing pointy sticks, or rocks at people. Firearms aren't the only weapons available for use to injure somebody. I've heard of a guy getting killed by a piece of steel plate. So you tell me, will outlawing firearms take care of your problem? I sincerely doubt it.

The bottom line is that no matter how much we want it to happen, the police cannot always be there to babysit every person. Sometime you might be put into a extra ordinary situation where you might need to defend yourself as well as your family. Maybe your family doesn't mean enough for you to step up and defend them, but mine sure does to me. If it comes down to defending my family I'd do whatever it takes to keep them safe. This is what makes the difference between a citizen and a subject. Your a subject. The Government should fear its people, its people shouldn't fear the government.

I agree.

How many criminals registered their guns?

Zero.

So, what did it accomplish other than to fill the government coffers with honest folks' money.

I love all these pollyannas daisy-tripping around in their flowery, flowing caftans thinking all is right with the world, that their neighborhood (no "u", thanks very much) is the safest around, and that we NRA folks and gun-rights advocates are all off our rockers. What the f%#k ever. You come into MY house at 1 a.m., or anytime, for that matter, without my permission, and I don't know you, I am going to shoot you, and if I've done it properly, I am most likely going to kill you. Come in my house, I got a l'il somethin' for you.

Funny, all the liberals who are forcing our hands into this stockpiling effort, are the same ones who either want to abolish the 2nd Amendment, or THEIR government has their noses planted so far up their collective asses, that they feel the United States should follow suit. Sorry. BigRed ain't a'gonna roll that way, brother. Eat lead, salute my Flag, here's your toe tag. The End

Kim

I knew it, I just knew it. That didn't take long. Comrade Kim seems to be gloatingly joyfull about crushing Americas 2nd amendment....While at the same time...having a tizzy about what Calif. said about marriage...another American tradition shoved down the crapper.
Yes you guys must be so happy...you're foaming at the mouths.

Who's talking about banning guns??

Still waiting on information concerning pending tax legislation on ammo... now I'd like to see the link to legislation on banning guns...

Most of those people rushed into the stores on the 3rd because they really wondered if ammo taxes would go up before Thanksgiving.

He doesn't get inaugurated till January, how can he impose a tax before Thanksgiving??? We were stocking up in case Obama lost and the riots come back.
