I used to own a mopar because it was different, but now I know better.

Sure does suck when you try and rip someone off and it backfires on you.  At least this time he didn't take any shots at Rick in his e-bay ad.  All the same, I hope he owns the thing forever.

Old Moparz

It's still way over priced with a starting bid of over $1300 for what's basically a core in unknown condition.

I would take that risk and buy it too. There is only one original engine in a cars life.

Would you pay at least that for an unknown core that wasn't your original engine though?

IF I had an aero car to put it in and I was able to ensure that it was rebuildable I MIGHT consider it but for me personally, that's a lot of money to throw out for an engine whose sole distinguishing characteristic is the "XX".  The rest of the engine is like any other 440 Magnum and the rest of the stamped numbers have nothing to do with any other car but the one it came in.  For me, it isn't really like buying a numbers matching block, it's more like a partially number s matching or a sibling matching block.  That's just me though.

BigBlockSam

i don't  know why the guy that owns the car this came out of doesn't pick this up . if that was the matching motor for one of my cars . i would be on the road to get it now.

He's a driver not a collector.  The added value this engine would make to his car was never ever the reason he was into these cars.  A serious miscalculation on the part of the guy who overpaid for the engine and needs to unload it today.

68charger383

Hopefully no one bids and the owner can pick it up for the $1,375. Why the seller won't just sell it to the guy for a reasonable amount is crazy. Pay it forward my friend.

The whole reason he bought it was to rape Rick.  He swooped in and overpaid to keep Rick from buying the engine a while back and then tried to flip it to him for a big profit.  Now he can't swallow his pride to admit he was a jerk and do the right thing.

Dude! me either , i drive my cars and I'm happy to see the market correct it's self  but you know how rare it is to find a missing motor. a decision to buy that motor should be a no brainer ,  :Twocents:

I was yelling at him on the phone when it ended with no bids last time...  i wanted to reach through the phone and throttle him.

if someone coughed up the motor for my Daytona in MONTREAL for that kind of money i'd start driving NOW to go get it!

Hey Doug,
I think My original block surfaced just North of Cincinatti!
How about you start driving to pick it up. Oh wait, we already went there!

I have a 340 Challenger T/A block that was apparently used for racing "back-in-the-day". It had some damage which required 2 sleeves to be installed, and all the lifter bores bushed. So now you can't use a Hyd. cam, but other than that its a solid block. I built it into a 416cid stroker motor with Edlebrock heads, putting out around 550hp on pump gas (480hp to the back tires). Its currently in a friends AAR Cuda clone and runs 11.0's on motor and 10.10 with a little NOS. Fantastic motor!

Through some Mopar channels I was able to locate the owner of the T/A that matched the serial number on the block. He wanted me to sell him "his" block for $800. I counter offered with $10K as it is now a fresh fully assembled 550hp pump gas motor - a full $4000 less than it would take to purchase the equivalent motor from Indy Cylinder Head. Not to mention, I have to believe even modified, the original block with a T/A Challenger would significantly increase his resale value.

Guess he didn't see it my way. I still have the motor.

I see your point BPTracing, What the car owner could have offered (since he did not want a complete engine) was to supply you with another block and pay you for the labour to transfer all the components. He ends up with numbers and you are not out an engine, but I'm not convinced he would be saving a significant amount of money. I do not think the car owner has a very good understanding of economics, who did he expect to pay you for the disassembly of  the motor and the purchase the used racing parts that he did not want?
It all boils down to whether the owner wishes to sell the car or not, since the money can only be recouped if the car is for sale, (he obviously could not afford the 10K or did not see it as an investment). In racing "speed costs money how fast do you want to go", in restoration "numbers cost money how original do you want to be".
