I am looking at different intakes on ebay and am wondering which vintage intake would be the best were I to get one. Right now I am looking at a DP4b and a Weiand Single Quad tunnel ram. I looked at the hot rod shootout and they seem pretty even with the power they make. Or, is it even worth it, I have a 1970 383 4bbl intake on my 400. Would I get better tenability with either one. I have a 73 400 stock compression, 452 heads, mild cam, headers, 670cfm holley.
Right now I am not sure if I am even going to buy one but it can't hurt to ask.

I got a Weiand 8008 intake on my 383...big difference from the stock one....

If you want power and tunability, why bother with a vintage intake?  You can pick up a modern one used for a fair price now.  But, of the two you mentioned I would pick the DP4B myself (if I had to pick one of the old ones).

I can't find a cheap used one. I am looking to spend less than $100. The vintage ones are usually cheaper.

Fair enough.  Like I said, I like the DP4B of the two you've listed but that's just me.

Dan, the 70-71 stock 4bbl intake is the best of the bunch. On a low compression 400 with a mild cam you probably won't notice any significant improvement with an aftermarket dual plane. If you plan on upgrading in the future, the CH4B is an excellent choice for say a 451 lowdeck stroker in the 450-500hp range.  :2thumbs:
