I was cleaning up some of the basement & spotted this cute little guy. I had to go get the camera & tell my daughter to come see the new pet we have, so she bolted to the basement to see. We watched it crawl around some, & I put a quarter down next to it so you can actually see how big it is in relation to the coin. It's a general rule in our house not to squash spiders. They're cool looking & eat the really annoying things crawling around.

I'll play too!  No size reference in this pic, but this little guy was in my back yard.  Yes, those are hundreds (if not thousands) of babies on momma's back!!!

RECHRGD

I agree, I wouldn't squash either of those things.  I'd use the 357 magnum.   Bob

I'm amazed it stayed still long enough for you to get a pic, once you put the quarter down.

The only ones I kill are mainly Black Widows, especially if they're in the house...we've got quite a few of those around here.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

That Banana Spider looks pretty wild, never saw one. My daughter (she's 6) has a bug book that keeps her busy. She'd rather hunt bugs & play in the creek than go to the toy store. (Most of the time.) I just had a section of my yard cleared that has had heavy brush since we've lived here. Now there's access to a small stream she hasn't seen before, so there should be a "Lewis & Clark Expediton" this weekend. She'll be bringing home frogs, lizards & other things for the cat to play with.

Looks like a orb weaver OM. We have a lot of them around in the early fall. I'm glad to know i am not the only one that takes pictures of spiders. lol I have two tarantulas as pets. I don't pet them but they are interesting to watch.

Found this one on the hubby's GTX one morning.

and these are the pets.

First one is my rose haired and the second is my stripped knee.

Hi Jen,

Must be a small zoo at your place with all the animals you have.   :D   I think I have some other spider photos on a disc somewhere too. There was one web that was perfect, so I had to leave it alone for a few days. It was attached to the overhang at the side door to the garage & the wall. I had to duck to go in the garage, but they don't last too long so it doesn't bother me. It looks cool when the morning dew is on it & the sun hits it.

My wife Mary, took our daughter to a small, local, science/nature museum over the summer called Museum of the Hudson Highlands. She got to hold lizards, turtles & frogs, touch a snake (but wouldn't hold it) Pet a crow & see some other things up close. There aren't too many animals & insects she won't show an interest in, so we just make sure she knows not to touch certain things that may sting. It's always interesting when one of the cats brings back an animal, or part of one, to see her reaction.

Nothing like being told "Daddy, come pet this cute chipmunk & see how soft the fur is" & seeing only half of one.   ::)

Yep.

Bunches of 'em runnin' 'round Tejas.

Some of them are big enough that they build their webs between tree trunks.   :o

We had one out near the carport that was d@mn near 4 inches across when her legs were splayed out.

I think I've got a pic of her somewhere.

I'll have to see if I can't dig it up.

Sorry Khyron. It did say pictures... :nana:

It used to be a Zoo, I did have to find new homes for most of my animals after the fire. I kept the Dogs of course, the spiders no one wanted them, my snake and my iguana...

It's cool that your daughter loves bugs and other assorted creatures. I used to love to catch all sorts of lizards, snakes, bugs, frogs, whatever i found. My mom hated it.
