How to deal with "bearded trick-or-treaters"?

I'm sick of them. These 17-year-olds who show up at my door in a sweat shirt and a pillow case expecting me to give them candy. It's nothing more than implied extortion. "Give me candy or I'll key your car" they seem to be saying.

How would you deal with them (make them fell like the asses they are) and yet avoid retaliation?

Charger_Fan

Yeah, I hear ya. :rotz:
I dunno...demand a trick before they can have a treat? Say something like "aww, you kids look cute tonight"? Drop one Jolly Rancher in each of their pillow cases..."there ya go, you kids have a good time"?

:shruggy:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Big_John

I've had it happen... but I knew them because they were friends of my kids.

I just tossed the candy in like everybody else. Then I laughed and shook my head.

Who cares? Its a few cents worth of candy. Let them have it.

Mike DC

I agree.  Big deal, let 'em have a few cents worth of candy.

Keep a frying pan full of spare change hot on the stove. After the bell rings & you determine they're too old, dump the pan into a bowl, hold it out saying "Dig in & take a handful." That'll straighten out your problem.   :D

I guess it's just the principal of it. There's something wrong when several 8-year-olds come a little later in the evening and I have to tell them I'm out of candy because 15 high school juniors and seniors came by that were too lazy get jobs and buy their own friggin' candy.

moparstuart

We make homemade root beer and give out candy also .  I handed out 400 cups of root beer last year .
I expect to hand out more tonight with the great weather .
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

The teenagers usally dont come around till after dark say 8:00pm and later, by then the younger kids are all home and in bed so we just turn the lights off.

I'm just as upset with the young couples who bring around their babies less than 6 months old (ones they have to carry wrapped up in a blanket in their arms) and hold out a pillow case, while saying Trick or Treat.   Talk about beggars!

17-year olds? Do them a favor and give out condoms instead of candy.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Have some special candy set aside just for them.

I'm sitting on the porch with the LT and a bucket of candy just taking it easy...   OK the beer helps too.

I'm waiting for the teenagers to come by out so I can enjoy the shaving cream and egg fights.    They never carry bags so if they want a handful of candy.... so what?   I laugh at them trying to get the crap out of their hair.

I have a halloween rule.  I don't care how old you are.  If you show up at my house wearing a costume and say "trick or treat," you get candy. You could be 40, and I'll still give you candy.

If, however, you show up at my door and you're NOT wearing a costume or don't say "trick or treat", I'll slam the door in your face.

Two years ago, I had three or four teenagers show up not wearing costumes.  I asked, "so what are you supposed to be" and one of the little wiseasses says "I'm my twin brother."  To which I responded, "Really?  That's a good costume.  I'm the asshole who isn't giving you candy....get the hell off my property."  I then reminded him that I knew where he lived and if anything happened, there would be hell to pay.

Next year, he showed up in a costume and got candy.

BTW, I give out GREAT candy.  I put a double reeses cup, a full-size crunch bar, a full size baby ruth, and a fun-size bag of M&Ms in a little bag and give one of those to each trick-or-treater.  Kids don't want to piss me off.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

that would have been the best "good" candy score ever back in the days,  we were happy with any mini size candy bar, that was the best to hope for, as opposed to tiny box of raisins, sugar stix, loli pop, hard candy, etc.

My wife gets mad at me when I don't give a teenager candy when they come up to the door. I have a philosophy that its for the kids. And if they are dressed up they get something, but if they are just 13-19 and just too lazy to put on a costume they aren't getting any from me. Plain and simple.

People asking for a handout without putting forth an effort gets us where? Oh well just take a look around.

The70RT

When they come to the door they say TRICK or treat. I remember back in the day people just played tricks on kids scaring them or making you reach in a box you couldn't see in and getting a handfull of spagetti or something. I had a friend just hand out stapled shut bags of christmas candy from last year. I also knew someone that handed out Mcdonalds coupons for a small ice cream at Mac Donalds, they say on the coupon kids 12 and under  :D  Remember those nasty orange and black taffy candy we used to get as kids?....i hated those. Candy is on sale now get some for next year

It seems every year we get the repeat teenagers.  I handed out to the first wave of halloweeners' and my daughter finished.  I seen a group of teenagers show up again, she started handing out as I told my wife they were already here.  My wife yells, "Outta here".  One of the kid's was hiding behind a taller kid from me.  He's the neighbor's kid.  They had no problems leaving.
They were pretty easy to distinguish, no costumes and only one had a paper bag over his head.  Kind of like a Chiefs fan.
I had a little colored kid ask for more candy, after I already gave him three, then he says, "How 'bout one of those pencils?" as he's looking at the loot.  I had to laugh later.

I'm going to OC's house next year.  No wonder you get posers.

Neighbor across the street really gets into it.  Some of the kids' are too scared and need parents to hold their hand to go up to the door.

You could do what I did this year and shut down the house and head out to the casino for a night to your self. Just make sure you put all your cars in the garage.

Worked great for me.

That just sucks.

You have to understand.  Halloween is my favorite holiday.  I like it better than Thanksgiving and Christmas (I hate Christmas).  I look forward to giving out candy and I love to have people trick-or-treating at my house.  I trick or treated well into college.  We lived in a college town, and most people around the college expected college kids.  Every once in a while, someone would give us crap, so we'd just move on to the next house.

I don't care how old you are.  If you come to my house in a costume, you get candy....you just have to be willing to put in the effort to wear a costume and say "trick or treat."

Aw, I think you guys are just being mean spirited. So when is a holiday just for specific ages? All ages of people get gifts at Christmas, all ages of people eat turkey at Thanksgiving, so whats wrong with all ages of people going trick-or-treating? Buy some candy, give it away, when its gone, its gone. All ages are welcome at our house, including the people who are still kids at heart, and the young parents, proudly showing off their baby, and doing something together as a family.

Well, it's not like I'm advocating that this practice be banned or that the teenagers be trapped by animal control officials and released back into the wild at the nearest bowling alley or something. It's just a discussion about one of my pet peeves which also includes daylight savings time, getting cut off in traffic or quad cab Chargers. I just happen to think teenagers trick-or-treating is pathetic and retarded is all.
