1969 Daytona retro custom

1969 Dodge Charger Daytona - Hemi orange - 16,721 original miles, 440 automatic council 410 dana - special ordered. This car was found from the original owner who owned it for 36 years since new. He drove it up until 1972 and was registered until 1979 but was not driven after 1972. The car seems to be 100% original the way it came down the assembly line, other then the customized paint job. The original owner had the nose and fender scoops molded to the fenders. This would not take much to put back to original. Also, he changed the intake and exhaust system. It still has the original rare scissors jack and crank handle. The original rims were changed back in 1971 and has a custom wheels from that err. Upon delivery to the original owner he had a dealer installed AM 8-track player (still works great!) Also, added adjustable air shocks - this is the knob located just under the dash. I have checked the engine and talked to the original owner he claims this is the original motor - I believe this is a replacement warrenty block when the car was new. The date casting on the motor is Jan. 16, 1969. This car has disc brakes and does run - we did fire it. Have not attempted to clean fuel system. We have been under this car, inside and out and cannot find any rot anywhere. This is a true time capsule find. This does have a very cool, period dated paint job - this has a red metalflake paint job with pearl white stripes and the rear end has been painted gold with candy apple red fogged into it from the front. We do have the original window sticker and will list a picture shortly. Also, the original seats were changed in 1970, front and rear seats were put into storage and are in excellent condition. Also, he changed the center council to a 1966 Dodge Charger council. He also changed the mirrors to 1970 Charger style. Owner wanted high back buckets and racing mirrors - which were not available until 1970. This comes with the original intake - he took it off when the car was new - unfortunately, he did not save the exhaust manifolds or the original rims - but both items are readily available. yep i remember that one ..as awesome find as it is  ...think it should be restored to back to stock  ,  but if it was in original stock condition  , survivor  etc ..i think it should be left

Then it would be just another restored Daytona 

Crazy 1970 paint job, flush nose and  flush fender scoops aside, this was a one owner, 16000 mile super-solid car which now has it's original interior back in it. It still has its original trunk mat and the underneath still shows the factory dip color as if it was only a year old. It is a period piece that is going to stay that way until I decide to restore or not. Right now it looks too cool to restore. The '70's were my era...Gotta love the Disco-Tona!

  i agree , i was going to paint my replica with a custom 70's paint job and sidepipes . still might . who knows . that was my era the 70's . i sill play 8 tracks in several of my cars .

Glad to see that you decided to keep it in the period paint job. To me that is impressive. I remember a ton of cars that had paint jobs like that from when I was younger, and now it seems that all of them have reverted back to stop paint jobs. I just wish that the ones that have had the paint jobs like that since pretty much day 1 would remain customized.

BBSam - Thank god my 8-Tracks didn't sell in the garage sale I had 20 years ago! I have a few cars with factory 8 Tracks and 'ol Doc has an aftermarket 52 pounder under dash in place. I could not keep the T/A style side pipes - They were totally rotted.

Thanks for the nod. The man went to a lot of trouble in 1970 to define his place in the car scene of the day. Also, to keep a car he purchased new for over 35 years. I feel I owe him one in letting it live as he envisioned. Put away that paint sprayer buddy! DISCO-Tona will prowl the streets again!

  i got the same in my roadrunner , very cool . i bought 28 8 tracks in a case for 5 bucks  off ebay and they sound great

I just wish that a few more people would have left custom paint jobs on their wing cars over the years. I mean honestly once they are back to stock trim, they are very easy to just blend in with the rest of the wing cars. but when they are left in their period custom paint jobs, they stick out like a sore thumb, and are something that everyone remembers.

ESPECIALLY at a big show like Talladega...we were one of three B5 birds at the Super 8. 

as small as it is, the B5 car will still have black scoops whenever it gets restored.  it's an easy way to find your car in photos!

Or.....Put the wing on backwards. It will look right during a Polish victory lap!
