So I'm having lots of trouble scanning in pictures from magazines, some times it scans the entire page when i only want a single photo, some times when i want a entire page it scans a portion, some times the scans are too small to be any good some times small portions are huge,.. some times stuff is cut off.
there doesn't seem to be any way to change or control what's scanned or how?..
It's a new HP Photosmart and I'd really like to share some magazine pics from the '60s and '70s but It's really a PITA.  :pullinghair: any advise?..

thanks in advance.

Are you using the HP software to control the scanner or the "Print and Scan" wizard in Windows? That may not be the exact name but it's in the Accessories section of the start menu? Either way, you should get a "preview" that you can click on to adjust the scan area. You'll probably see a little square drawn around the selected area and in the middle of each line there will be a box ("handle") that you can drag to wherever you want. The scanner software is trying to be idiot proof and select what it thinks is the image source... and it's usually wrong.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I bought a new Epson Artisan 800 all in 1 a few weeks ago.   It's freakin sweet.     Mostly upgraded cause it's wireless and it solves the network  usb printer problem I had my apple airport router and my old rx600.

Epson supplies their own software package that includes Epson Scan.   I kinda like it.   The scanner has home, business and professional mode and I can adjust the DPI in business or professional modesl anywhere from 50 to 12800 dpi.     The dault home mode seems to be about 96 dpi while business/ pro seems to default about 300.    The jpeg size increases with the dpi.

I can also adjust the brightness and color tint in preview mode before scanning.

Good luck...   I dunno much about the HP.   Karisa like her laptop - it's definitely a bigger bang for the buck than the Lenovo T61 I got for work.
