Cody's 1973 Duster (UPDATED: ENGINE COMPARTMENT OVERHAUL DONE!!!!: 8/14/10)

That's a nice A body. What are your plans again? (I'm sure I missed that somewhere) Paint?

-Fix the floor pans
-Fix the leaks in the window(s)
-Put some new tires and Rallye wheels on it
-New carpet & headliner
-New 4bbl carb and intake
-Put the side trim on the front fenders (going to the junkyard this weekend to get some)
-Fix the quarter panel/roof seams and fill in vinyl top holes properly.
-New starter


I hope to get it painted but we'll see how time and money works out. I'll be showing it no matter how it looks this summer so I don't think I can make enough money before summer to afford paint.

Cody, if you don't have any luck at the junkyard for side trim you can get it at Canadian Tire. It is the stick on type.

Cody...have you given any thought to giving your duster a moparts "roller" paint job?  It would cost you 100 bucks in materials and you would probably learn a lot about paint/bodywork by doing it.  your car looks like it's only had one repaint and I don't see any major body issues.  maybe a "scuff and roll" job. 

I look at that duster and am totally getting a vision of B5 blue with a stripe down the side to go with those ralleyes you want...or drop it in the weeds and run a set of 16" torque thrusts...

I haven't really. I think I can work with the current paint (ex: polish etc) and make it nice for the time being. When I can afford it, it'll get a nice coat of paint.

It has high beams?!?!?!??! I need to replace the battery....I got all my lights working last night but they are kinda dim. I need to put new bulbs in for the taillights. I replaced the bulbs in the marker lights and they all work. Headlights, park lights and brake lights work good.

It makes me cringe everytime someone brings up the miracle $100 "roller" job. You will never ever get results as you would with any catalyzed paint system....period. A gallon of acrylic enamel with hardener is around 100 bucks and if you want something more durable, and uv resistant... you could step up to a economy line of urethane for under $150 bucks.

Hot Rod magazine done that article just to sell magazines, plain and simple, I think its more trouble than its worth.

WELL.....the car is still at my grandparents. A week of rain was hell trying to work on a car outside The headers made trying to replace the starter living hell. It's half torn apart right now. My dad is gonna finish the job up in the next few weeks and then I can FINALLY take it home.

Sorry dude, but it very likely they're gonna rust out fast once you start driving because its been sitting a long time.  Headers don't last long on a daily driver parked outside...

Is this a race?    The closest track is 1/8th mile, so basically the best guy out of the hole wins. The race is over by 3rd gear. 

I'd love to see you guys battle it out on the strip. I'll even put up some stakes  ....of course, I'll have to see some performance numbers.
