I've got a question about headlights...

I've been mulling an idea over in my head for awhile....here it is.
I'm all for cold air induction for my '68 Charger R/T. However, I really don't like the idea of attaching a non-stock hoodscoop to my hood.
And cutting a hole in the middle of it - just doesn't cut it with me at all.

Remember the '64 Ford Thunderbolt drag cars? With the hoses running from the inside headlight area? Well, I'm pretty sure the designers of the Li'l Red Express trucks thought it was a pretty good idea too, as they pretty well duplicated the effort.

My idea is to rig my Charger up similar to the Thunderbolt, but using the hoses and set-up similar to the Express truck. That being said, I'd put screens over the inside headlight position, in lieu of headlights. Flexible tubes would channel the air from the grille to a plenum, then to the carb(s).
The headlight doors will be opened with electric linear actuators, controlled by a hidden switch. This will effectively open the ram-air system, drawing air from the grille cavity, which everybody knows was a great air scoop, and the major reason the Charger 500 went to a flush grille!

This means I'll have to have low beam and high beam on the outside headlights.

Does anybody know of a good high-intensity headlamps in that size? That would actually subsitute for the lack of inners?
Thanks.

That's a cool idea! *no pun intended  :icon_smile_tongue:*
Could you relocate the lost lights to the ones in the valance (not sure what the law says about having headlights that low)?

p.s. Where was that last picture taken? Hills in the back ground look familiar...

No, I was thinking about the two headlights remaining being both high and low beams combined.
I Googled "1968 Charger" for that image, so I have no idea where it's at.

Interesting idea Bryan.

For OP, the only problem I see with your idea is that during the daytime when the  headlight doors are closed, you then loose that air flow.   I have seen this before but what someone did do was to run the hoses to radiator support and then put a hole thru the support and then mounted conical filters on the front of the support to grab the air that is hitting the front of the radiator.  I'm kind of leaning to this route depending on how I eventually have my hood on my 73.
