I found a 383 block here the other day.  It's a bare block with main caps, has a 1962 casting date, and is from a 63 Chrysler.  I thought I heard once that the early 383's are hard to find and won't bolt up to the later 60's 727.  I guess my question is are the early 383's worth anything and if so how much?
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

The early RB 383 is hard to find. I think that was only available in 1959 and it was called the Golden Lion. They are not worth much to me but, assuming it will clean up good maybe $100 if I needed a date coded one for some reason. :shruggy:

I bought a quite a few complete big blocks over the last 10 years and never paid more than $150...and that was for a running '68 383 HP and tranny.

1968 Charger 383 auto
1969 Charger R/T 440 4 speed
1970 Charger 500 440 auto
1972 Challenger 318
1976 W200 Club Cab 4x4 400 auto
1978 Ramcharger 360 auto
2001 Durango SLT 4.7L (daily driver)
2005 Ram 2500 4x4 Big Horn Cummins Diesel 6 speed
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7 Hemi

The only early big blocks that won't bolt to a 727 are the '61 and earlier with the extended 8-bolt crank flange. Replacing the crank in these motors with a '62 or later crank will make them capable of accepting a 727.

All '62 and later V8 motors can be bolted to a 727 without any modifications.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

R.I.P. Bareback Jack (those who know will understand).

... have had a lot of questions about what a bareback jack is so am modifying my reply to explain:

Bareback Jack was somewhat an alter-ego for the late western singer and bareback champion Chris LeDoux. 25386265697 has a quote from one of LeDoux' songs in his - uh, whatever the text thingy is called that auto generates underneath our text boxes when we reply.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.
But before the General Lee there was me - Headrope.
