They could have left out the part about Charger and just said it was part Coronet R/T or  whatever.    It's using Coronet R/T hood and badges... and the 68 stripe looks out of place IMHO.   The buckets and centerconsole are the highlights of a 1st gen interior and that stuff is missing.   Part of me thinks that a 1st gen Charger pickemup type thing would be a cool custom if it kept part of the roof life from the side view ala Avalanche / Ridgeline tho. 

But overall I'm sure whoever built it is happy with it...    not my preference.   

And for another take on the camino theme...  this is the El Nomado that was at a local show a couple weeks ago - a very cool custom built rod.   It probably should have won a best in show trophy but it rolled in too late and was just parked on display.
Excuse the Chebbie... but it's a converted '58.   409 tri-power under the hood.
This came out very very nice but I'm sure some folks won't appreciate it here anyway

It was at Columbus some years back as well.  IIRC, they started with a Coronet and then added the Charger grille and dash.

The upper rear bed looks reminiscent of a late 60s early 70s Chevy pickup bed. I wonder if they used part of a Chevy pickup to fill in some spots back there.

It's probably been done but that is one I have yet to see.  There was the Targa style roof one done for that cheesy Frankie Avalon movie "Thunder Alley" but no 'verts that I no of.  That is a looooong roof to chop off and throw away.

The whole story is included in the Mopar Action article. It DID start life as a Charger, not a Coronet. I saw it last year at Carlisle as well- and it didn't look bad in person at all. Not something I would personally do, but it wasn't bad. The guy that owns it now bought it last year after the Carlisle show. The conversion actually had to be redone, because it was a real hack job to start with. The article gave a lot of the history of the car, traced back to several of the prior owners, although the one responsible for the initial conversion hasn't surfaced.

The difference there is that Jim started with a 67 Coronet convertible and added the 1st Gen Charger body elements to that. It wasn't a modded Charger, as the pickup version was.
