I just joined your site last night and wanted to say howdy to all and tell a little about my self.

I am a hot rodder from way back, like I got into cars in about 1959. I was driving by the time I was 13 in an old delivery truck in a new home construction plat where new homes were being built. My very first introduction to hot rods was when an uncle who had just bought a brand new 1961 Lincoln hard top convertible heard the song hot rod Lincoln on the radio and decided to soup his Lincoln up. He special ordered a set of three deuces and intake from an out fit in California. They had to be special because of the underhood clearance. Any how, once they were installed I thought that lincoln was the fastest thing on this planet,(mind you I was still a teenager). Well we made several trips between Ohio and  Kentucky in the hot rod lincoln visiting relatives. Then one day my uncle picked me up for a trip to Ky and under the dash there was a brand new 45 rpm record player, talk about cool. In about 1963 uncle pulled into a filling station to fill up the lincoln.  He went inside for something, when he looked back out his pride and joy was totally engulfed in flames sitting at the pumps. The best they could figure out is one of the fuel lines to those carbs must have sprung a leak. Long story short, that old lincoln sewed a seed for speed that has grown for over 47 years now.

I`m currently building a 1969 superbee 440, 4 spd & 331 gears. It just came off the rotisserie a few weeks ago. I had it soda blasted, installed a set of US frame connectors and had the bottom of the car completely covered in a protective coating to prevent rust, and painted the same color that the body will be painted. I hope to drive it in 09.

I`m currently driving a 1965 Plymouth Fury 3 commando 2 dr hdt. Shes nearly all stock with a 383 automatic. The only changes to date are, I replaced the 2bbl and intake with a carter afb 4 bbl and installed a duel point distributor out of a 440 hipo engine. Shes nothing special, just a solid daily driver when I get the urge.

I, like most other rodders also have a line up of other projects, too numerous to mention, lol.

I build my own engines, and frames, and can do the sheet metal work on the body's if I have to. I do my own radiator work and rebuilding and repairs on my own 4 speeds. I farm out the bondo and paint work.

I love doing my own carburetor work, especially setting up 6 packs.

Any how i`m glad to be aboard and you all keep it between the lines and out of the ditches.

WOW!
I didn`t expect all those replys. You all know how to make a feller feel welcome. Thanks

First off, in response to where in missouri. I have a Newburg address, but I live 9 miles from Newburg about a quarter mile back into the national forrest. My closest neighbor is a quarter mile away, I can`t see them for the mountain seperating us and if they become a nusance in any way I will evict them.  I generally only associate with other car nuts, and since I retired a few years back I have done three things. Built or worked on my hot  rods, hunted or fished. Life is good. Anyhow, My property is between Rolla, MO. & Ft Leonardwood, MO. Just off I 44. Its real easy to find.

At home I work out of very small two bay garage thats got so many tools and treasure in it, That half the time I have to work out in the weather due to not being able to get in side for the clutter. I just recently sold off a bunch of my extra treasure trying to make room but so far I `m still out in the weather. Some lucky guys shopping on e-bay are now the proud owners of a couple 6 pack systems that I had laying around collecting dust. I did keep the best setup for my superbee.

As far as hearing more of my stories, Hmmm, most would be unbelievable, some are too embarrassing, others my wife would kill me over, so I`m limited.

I recently put together a note book for my grand kids that sort of touched the highlites of my life on this planet. One of the items of memorabilia was the original doccumentof a bond my my wife had to post for me in Miamisburg, Ohio back in 1970, that a state trooper wrote on it where he had me clocked at 100 mph +. At the time I just happened to be sober and was crusing, so when I got off the I-70, I was sitting at the bottom of a off ramp waiting for the light to change to green, when about three minutes later a cop came screaming down the off ramp. I came to find out he had been chasing me all the way from Cincinnatti (52 miles). I told the trooper that First off I didn`t know he was chasing me and second if I had of known I would have opened her up and gave him a real chase, lol. He arrested me and the wife had to bail me out.

Ok, I`m going to try and post some pics. I`m not very good at posting photos and have no idea as to the order these photos will show up in. But What I`m going to try and post are some photos of my 69 superbee in process at my sons shop. A photo of my fury and a photo of my sons Rat rod he is building. I may also try and slip in a photo of my 1930 chevy that I want to turn into a rat rod. That is if the site allows for that many photos. If you  have any questions about any of these cars or projects give me a hollar i`ll be glad to respond

This should be the under hood of the superbee

ky509

My sons Rat Rod hes building. I traded him the Hemi engine for a set of wilwood disk brakes for my superbee.

ky509

This should be a photo of my Fury and a photo of the superbee before I started on it and a photo of my 1930 chevy sedan

ky509

These are more of the superbee while on the rotesserie. They are not very good but will give you an idea as to the work that has went into the body.

Hi Mike

I use to drive through your neck of the woods a few years back going to Columbia to buy cars at a salvage auction.

Hey, have you heard of a machine shop around your area called Dickies? They are supposed to specialize in mopar engines. I`m wanting to build a 440 for my Bee. And honestly there are no one in my area I would trust doing the machine work on my parts around here. When it comes to my engines, I am one picky Bas@@@@ and a machine shops worst nightmare, so it takes a pretty darn good shop to satisfy me. I use to work in a machine shop and I have all the tools to measure a crank and block. I can easily feel and read 2 tenths of a tho. with my old worn out fingers, and diligently check every thing a shop does to my parts. I have read in a mopar muscle magazine about a shop in jeff city called Dickies that enters in some of their engine building contests. They generally do well in the challenges, but, I would like to talk to some one who has had work done by them. Its about time for me to get started on my engine and need to locate a shop to do the work. There is another  shop that specializes in mopars in Iowa, but that is a long way to go for machine work. Any info you may have on Dickies would be appreciated.

Yup, its F6.

My son has a mixing station and mixes his own paint. The paint he is using is the original formulation on the green, but the clear he is using really makes the color pop out. It seems to be a lot brighter than the original. I like the way it looked so I gave him the go ahead.

Hey that shop your talking about is in Columbia not Jefferson city. I don't know much about them other than some of the local racers say he is expensive for what you get. The guy who built my motor for me goes to a machine shop down in lebanon I believe. I had my machine shop work done by a place in Jefferson City called Steinmetz automotive. They are not a big shop but have a great reputation and are considered to be one of the best in the area. The machinist is a guy with a heart of gold and has some sort of walking and talking disability. But don't let that decieve you he is good. I can try to get the name of the shop in lebanon if you would like.

What all did you have done to your motor and what size is it if you don`t mind me asking.

As far as I`m concerned I`ll use any shop that will turn out a high quality job. Finding one that is also fairly priced is generally a bonus but not the main issue with me. I mainly want every thing properly sized. and with the correct finishes.

I would be intersted in talking to both shops, Lebanon and Jeff city if you don`t care to give me both numbers.

Thanks
Ed

Nice bee!!  I get up that way every once in a while.  My dad lives on Bull Shoals lake in Pontiac MO,  Well he is actually about a mile into Arkansas, but has a pontiac MO mailing adress.  You don't have any small block six pack set ups lying around taking up space and getting in your way, do ya :scratchchin:  Allen

ok lets start with info on shops. Steinmetz automotive is 573-635-3954, on the other hand the machinist from Lebanon has moved to Outlaw Engines in Camdenton, Mo which is even a much better shop according to my friend 573-346-5550.

Now as for my engine it is a 383 it is bored 60 over. They cleaned the block including all passages and put hardened seats in the heads. I am not sure what all else they did I left it up to my friend who built the motor to handle the details, I know they polished the crank other than that I am not sure.

Hope this helps

Thanks! It took me a long time to find that old Bee. I had looked for a good superbee to build  for years. Finding one that wasn`t a rust bucket  was some what of a challenge. All mine needed was the tail light panel and the lower parts of the rear quarters. Every thing else was very nice.

ON the 6 pack

I have a nearly new aluminum 6 pack intake for a 383 Low Block.

I do have one EXTRA set of Holley 2300 deuces left that will fit a mopar 6 pack intake manifold but they are expensive. They are an all original set of 435 hp 427 ci Corvette carbs. Chevrolet called um Tri Power, actually they`re the same carburetors as the mopars with slight differences. They are about 30 cfm smaller in flow than the mopar carbs but would work very well on the 383 or smaller engines. They can be made to work on a mopar. The last set that sold on eBay similar to mine with a similar date code, sold for $3500.00 just for the carburetors. Mine are dated coded Jan and Feb 1967. They are like owning gold my friend. I have one fellow in Texas that just offered $2,850.00 for them, lol. I still have um. They are so rare and valuable I don`t even keep them in my garage, I keep um hid some where else.  When I get more time around the holidays I`m going to list them on about 50 corvette web sites, some one will scarf um up. The last time I ran um was in the 1970`s so I know they will need some new gaskets, a pump and power valve as these probably dried out and cracked years ago.

But if your interested, I will sell um to ya. I`ll even bolt um on the 383 intake for you and if you want to foot the bill, I can go through um and make um like new.

Thanks, I am looking for a small block set up for a spare 340 I have.  Did you find the Bee in Missouri?

I don`t have any 340 stuff at all, sorry.

I found the Bee on eBay. It was located in S. Dakota. The fellow selling it listed it as one of the most rust free coronet bodies he had ever seen. You know I really trusted that, lmao. Any how, who ever the high bidder was had 3 days to get him paid, so now I was trusting the rust comment even less. So what I done was figured  the miles and route to the town the car was located in, went to the bank and drew out enough cash to cover my max bid. The bid closed at abt. 10 PM on a night during the week, and that was very unusual to me as most ppl want to end their bids on Sundays so that a lot of ppl have a chance to find and view their products during the weekend. So the seller really had me spooked. I waited till the bid had 15 seconds left before closing and submitted my high bid, and low and behold I was the winner. I sent him an immediate message asking for a physical address on him and the car, he quickly replied with the info. I had already found a stop 8 motel near the town where he was listed as being on eBay so I called and made reservations, the wife and I hooked the trailer to my old Dodge dually and we took off for S. Dakota early that very morning, like about 2AM. We arrived late that evening, I called him letting him know I was in town and he sounded shocked. Right away he started saying if you don`t want the car I already have it sold to a man in Texas. I said I havn`t seen it yet how would I know if I wanted it or not. He came back with something like " well I was just letting you know if you want to back out I don`t have a problem with it" By now this feller has me thinking that the car is a total piece of crap and I have wasted a lot of time and diesel for nothing. I told my wife that I had a real bad feeling about the deal. Any how the next morning we were able to go see it. I had a nice large flash light with me so I could inspect the bottom of the car and the frame rails. After I inspected it I couldn't`t believe my eyes, he had actually under sold the car. The car was in fantastic shape. It even had a rebuilt engine in it all the numbers matched except for the engine block, but the block was a date period correct 383 block, but not the original one for that car. After I got it home and took it apart I found that he didn't`t even know what he had in the engine. He had bought it in Texas off eBay a few years before he sold it to me. The car has been sitting for nearly 20 years garaged.during the last 3 owners. Anyhow back to the engine. The 383 was bored .030, has a .010 .010 crank, Trw 9,1 pistons, Lunatti cam kit. the heads have been completely redone. Some one has put a lot of $$$ in the engine. To bad I`m a 440 man, lol. Back to my story. I was satisfied with the car so we traded cash for title and loaded it onto my trailer. He says to me, " I was really hoping you would not go through with the deal", I said second thoughts, he said " no better offer" I say hows that, he says "the person you were bidding against on eBay called me and told me that if I would find a way not to sell the car to you, that they would give me a even thousand dollars more for it over what your high bid was" I said no kidding, he said " no kidding, they are serious" . I guess I had just barely beat them out on being the high bid, and they didn't`t have time to get another bid off before the auction ended. Any how, the car turned out to be a great builder, everything is numbers matching except for the engine, I`m tickled pink with the deal. And have a really nice souped up 383 high performance engine for sale.

If I happen to come across some one with a small block 6 pk setup I`ll pass the info on to you.

He is chopping the top on it 3 inches and is almost done with that part. He just found and all original factory Dodge Brothers long bed for it with tail gate, and also found a set of Missouri licenses plates that are the exact same year as his truck. I`m starting to think that I just may have to have it when he gets it finished, lol.
