JUST GOT MY BRAND NEW MP DISTRIBUTOR... the question:  should it be on package just the distributor or MAYBE ALSO some springs set to customize the curve setup?

I'm asking this because was shipped to a buddy of Moparts board and he came down to Venenzuela and gave me personally ( greeeat guy BTW ), but to save room inside suitcase he bring it without the box

Unless its a brand new policy, they don't come with extra advance springs.

Mr. Gasket sells a pair of advance springs for the MP distributor that lets full advance come in between 2000 and 2800 rpm supposedly.  Find them for $4.95 at:

I don't know if anybody else has anything like this or not.

What has been peoples experience using the MP distributor with respect to the springs for a street car with a 4-spd and then with a automatic.  Are the springs included sufficient for street use?

ok, perfect, now... is a plug and play job to fit on engine ? I'm noticing the gap set is HUUUGE. I know stock gap is .008. Instruction sheet states a gap between .008 to .018... What gap is better for better performance ?

something to worry about the factory conterweights setup ?

I have mine gapped on the tight side.  I don't know if it's better or worse thats just where I have it.

Nacho-RT74

after check the gap and notice that EVERY RELUCTOR POINT DID NEED TO BE MILLED DOWN :brickwall: to get on everyone same gap or closer as posible....

WASN'T ABLE TO START THE ENGINE!!!

I WAS GETTING SPARK, but engine never fired up, just some backfiring.

and yeah, turned 180 degrees the rotor to be sure, so I had to isntall back the old distributor, and fired up INMEDIATLY.

SOME IDEA ?

I'm getting spark, and everything is working perfect with the old distributor. As soon I mount the new one just get backfiring. Is the rotor aligned with the slot the same on MP than the stock one ?

ECU is working of course since I get spark with the MP too

I found it!!! yes, definitelly the distribuitor shaft is not on same position than the stock one and doesn't meet with same rotor position so need to relocate the spark plug wires OR relocate the oil pump shaft to change the slot position... I went for the 2nd option... around 1/4 turn

WHY IS THAT!!!! I HATE TO MODIFY THAT KIND OF STUFF... it should be a plug and play job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-mill the reluctor points to get all around same gap!
-mill a little bit the pick up point to get a straight end and bent it to guarantee the same ratio position against center of shaft when advancing!!!!
-change the slot location

Sorry Nacho, I thought you were using the MP ecu with it.  You are right too, it should be a plug and play.

Nacho-RT74

I'm using a Chromed MP ECU, but I had it before the ne MP distributor... I never got the complete kit.
