I am looking for a used car hauler, that is big enough to hold a charger and still open the doors when loaded.  I had a utility trailor that I could load a charger on but ypu had to climb out the window after you were loaded. I only paid $900 for that one new.  I would like to get a car hauler for under $1,500.  Am I dreaming? what specs should I be looking for 14' long ?

I wouldn't go any smaller than 18 feet. Mine is a 16 foot deck with a 2 foot dove tail for a total of 18 Feet.  It's just right for my Chargers, but it looks funny when I've had my 71 Imperial on it-three feet of car hanging off the back :eek2:

I'm pretty sure the Daytona clone is going to hang off the back some too...but I haven't had it on there yet ;)

Here are pictures of my car trailer. It is an 18 foot trailer with a 4 foot dovetail. The back end of the Charger is almost flush with the back of the trailer, so I wouldn't go any less than 18 feet. The ramps are 5 feet. It has brakes on one axle (which I kind of regret not getting them on both) and a breakaway box. The final price was around $2200.

Thanks guys, I have a shot at a good deal on a 14' with a 2' dove tail, but it aint a good deal if the car doesn't fit  :brickwall:

I have a 16 foot, 2003 Load Trail car hauler that I bought new for $1725.00 complete with beaver tail, ramps, front curb rail, side stake pockets, center supports 16" on center, brakes on both axles, a pressure treated wooden deck, & rated at 7000 pounds, gross. I wanted wood so I can use it for other things as well as mounting things directly to the floor. I do wish I went with an 18 foot one instead, but the 16 foot has hauled my '68 Charger, '70 Road Runner, '71 Barracuda, & my '95 F-150 with no problems.

Just thought I'd add that on another forum, one member who bought a Load Trail trailer, had some paint issues & some poor customer service handling the problem. It was finally resolved, but he was pissed in how they initially handled it. The paint on mine is okay, but I think he bought a much more expensive, gooseneck trailer for over $5000 or so. Mine has been fine as far as towing, handling, & have never had any trouble. If you're looking at used trailers for $1500 why not spend a little more & get new?  :Twocents:

Bob,

I have the exact same trailer but mine's 18'. I paid $2,200.00 five years ago for it. I looked for used trailers but the good ones were almost as much as a new one, and the cheaper ones were beat to sh*t and rusty.

yep, a 16' trailer will work, but this time around i bought an 18' one, and now i don't have to worry about the ass end hanging 2-3 feet off the back, and it's easier to distribute the weight as opposed to the car right up to the very front.. i would recommend 16' with 2' dovetail minimum.. i paid $1250 for mine new 3 years ago.. standard steel trailer, wood deck, no trailer brakes

Thanks guy's I passed on the 14' with 2' dove tail, I think I will keep looking$1750 doesnt sound bad, I just had  budget of $1500.  I can always spend the extra $250 and let it slip my mind when I tell my wife what I paid :icon_smile_big: It seems I have long suffered from selective memory loss :nana:

You saw my trailer - list price was $2230 with the lights, brakes on both axles, and breakaway box. I couldn't find a decent used one for much cheaper than that. Some of the low-price dealers put on used car tires and only have brakes on one axle with no breakaway box and they're still asking $1300-1400. The price of steel really affects the price of new trailers and since it has dropped recently look for the newest trailer you can find. I wouldn't look at anything less than 18' (total) for hauling a Charger.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
